Chapter III
It was his father's voice that brought Kallias out of his daze. He blinked his eyes in attempts to clear his vision, turning away from Jasper's penetrating gaze. He exhaled deep, hoping to shake himself from the haze that had taken hold of him. It pained him to look away from the honey haired vampire, but at least he felt he could breathe properly again.
"This cannot be happening?" Leon gripped his hair in frustration before he turned to his wife, "Did you see this?"
"I did," her voice was soft, trying to placate his rising anger, "but darling, it's not the end of the world."
"I'm sorry, my friend, but I'm not so sure what's going on," Carlisle's expression was one of confusion as he warily watched his friend's face twist into a snarl.
"Kallias has impr–"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence," Leon hissed at Edward, before turning his attention to Kallias, "come."
Kallias rose obediently, knowing that complying when his father lost his temper was best for everyone involved. Leon was a relatively well composed person, but had a difficult time quelling his anger once it spiked.
Kallias moved to follow his father, but a cold hand on his forearm stopped him. Jasper smelled divine, like pressed roses and desert heat. Immediately Leon was beside him; the two vampires growled in warning at one another.
"Get your hands off of him," Leon tried to pull him away, but Jasper's grip was firm.
Kallias felt like a ragdoll.
"He's dangerous right now," Jasper said, referring to his father's anger.
"He's my father," Kallias' voice was soft, trying to calm the situation, "He won't hurt me."
Jasper's expression morphed into one of confusion. The vampire looked between the two ebony haired men and began to notice the similarities between the two. It was at this moment he noticed the flush on Kallias' cheeks– the beating of a heart. Jasper was utterly perplexed.
"I advise both of you remove your hands from Kal. You'll hurt him," Ylva's voice was firm, and one couldn't help listening. She quietly demanded obedience.
Immediately the two vampire's removed their hands from the hybrid, as if he was made of thin glass that would shatter under the strength of their marbled hands. Kallias couldn't help rolling his eyes; he wasn't that delicate.
"Now let us go discuss this as a family," Ylva said, "Please excuse us."
Kallias followed his parents towards the door, turning his head to give Jasper one last glance before exiting the house. His father was pacing back and forth, jaw clenched and hands curled into tight fists.
"This is absolutely ridiculous," Leon growled, "I don't approve of this."
"Father," Kallias sighed, "I can't control this."
"Kal is right, my love," Ylva grasped his father's shoulders, stilling the vampire, "This should be celebrated."
"I can't believe you knew of this," Leon attempted a glare, but the vampire could never be upset with the shifter.
"If I told you, we wouldn't have come here as quickly. By the time you would have accepted this bond, the human would be dead."
His father frowned, knowing his mother was right. It would have taken his father much too long to allow Kallias access to his mate. Kallias wouldn't blame his father either. He was still wary of his mate being a vampire, even if his very being was drawn towards Jasper.
