"What the hell are you doing here?"
Leon gripped Kallias's shoulders before he could even acclimate to being back into Cullen territory. His father looked at him with wild eyes– crimson red– wide in worry. Kallias let his father hold onto him tightly, and leaned into the touch. He missed his parents. Leon sighed heavily, "You shouldn't be here, Kal. Your mother– she's hardly had visions– but you've always been alive, and now..." Leon's eyes flicked over towards Jasper, and narrowed, "You were supposed to keep him safe."
"You need us here, dad," Kallias said something before the two vampires could start fighting. He slightly shifted in front of Jasper.
"It's good to see you, Leon," Koji provided some more distraction, taking the vampire's attention away, "Give us the rundown."
"I wish it were under better circumstances," Leon kept his hands on the hybrid. "It's not looking good. The Volturi are coming tomorrow. When the first snow falls."
"So Kal's intuition was right," Daishin eyed the two tall figures on the edge of the trees, "We didn't know there were other shifters here."
"They're wolves, like mom and me," Kallias explained, unsure how it slipped his mind. "The boy is Seth, and the girl is Leah."
"They seem much more happy to see us than everyone else," Ren muttered.
"That's cause they don't know what we are," Yuki bumped his shoulder against his twin's. "They just know we're dangerous."
"Where's Ylva?" Momo asked, looking around for Kallias's mother. It was his mom's absence that made him nervous.
"Is she alright, dad?"
"Of course she is," Leon's hands cupped his face, "She's meeting with the shifters across the border with Carlisle...you need to leave this place, please Kal."
"I'm not leaving you. I won't let you get hurt." Or die, Kallias thought, but didn't want to say.
"Kal—"
"There's nothing you can do to make us leave."
"Please, Leon," Koji said, "You need our help...even if these vampires are looking at us like we're an enemy..."
Kallias looked over his father's shoulder, finding the vampires staring at them through the glass window/wall, distrustful and slightly disgusted by the unknown, woodsy scent of the bear shifters. Kallias just raised an eyebrow, "Well they can't do this without us."
Leon's thumbs brushed over his cheekbones, "The moment he sees you..."
"I know. The Volturi want all of our gifts."
Leon sighed, "That's not...there's more to this, Kal."
"You never tell me anything," Kallias was angry, removing his father's hands from his face and stepping back. Jasper grabbed his hand, squeezing reassuringly.
"You don't know how dangerous they are—"
"That's why we're here, Leon," Sora had a determined look on her face, "We won't let you face a fight alone again."
Leon stared at her, then his eyes flickered to the vampire beside her, "You have a vampire with you."
"I am Toshiro. Sora's mate. It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise," Leon was slightly distracted, "Sora has been waiting a long time for you."
"And I for her," Toshiro said, gazing up at their audience on the other side of the glass, "We don't need to change our diet here."
