"You've been sneaking off with that boy."
Kallias eyed his father, teeth latched onto the criminal beneath his bruising grip, and rolled his eyes. The last drops of blood coated his tongue and dripped down his throat before he dropped the body unceremoniously beside his father's own kill; the corpses' skin now pale and sunken from lack of blood flowing through their veins. Kallias felt nothing as he stared at their lifeless bodies.
"You've only just noticed?" He wiped at the blood on his chin with delicate fingers and licked them clean. His father taught him to never waste.
"Oh I noticed much earlier," Leon's lip curled in distaste, as he leaned against the alleyway wall. His eyes were a shimmering crimson, and they glowed in the cover of darkness.
"I'm surprised you didn't stop us, but you've been so busy with Carlisle," Kallias narrowed his eyes as he confronted his father. Even with Jasper as a distraction, he'd been nothing but curious as to what the two vampires had been so secretive about. He didn't miss the way Carlisle's worried gaze passed over him and his mother, "What are you hiding, father?"
"It's of no concern to you," Leon said firmly.
"If it's about me, it is," Kallias' fists closed in frustration, nails digging into his flesh, "If this is about your past–"
"I've told you, we will not speak of this. It's too dangerous. My old coven is not a force you want to go against. There's no telling what they would do to you or your mother if your existence was exposed."
"And you think mother's help with Bella is a danger to us? She will not let the human die and run like I know you would."
"Is it running or is it protecting my family," Leon's eyes flickered towards the moon, shining with venom as if the vampire was capable of crying. "You do not know the dangers of them."
"If you would only tell me, father," Kallias stepped forward, hand reaching for his fathers to grasp it softly, "You have sheltered me for too long."
"The more you know the greater danger you are in. If he but touches you," Leon's lips tightened, refusing to say any more on the matter as he shakes his head, "The less you know the better, Kal."
Kallias frowned, irritated that his father refuses to be honest with him. He was fully capable of protecting himself, and he was fully capable of protecting his family.
"But your mother and I..." Leon looked quite unsure at his next words, "Your mother and I feel that you and Jasper must leave."
Kallias frowned, because his father's words were completely unexpected. "I don't understand."
"This child will bring the Cullens nothing except danger," Leon squeezed his hand gently, and placed the other on his shoulder, "Your mother sees death."
"And you have not told anyone else?"
"It is not something to worry them over–"
"Yet you will still have me run and leave you and mother in danger?" Kallias growled in frustration, because his father had always been too protective, but now to have him leave; it was unacceptable. "How could you ask me to do this?"
"My coven will come," Leon's eyes are hard, brows furrowed and voice serious, "They will come for the child and will come for you next."
"So I run for the rest of my immortality? Force Jasper to never settle?"
"We're valuable assets to my coven. If we offer our powers, they just might leave you alone."
"I can't ask that of you," Kallias' lip quivered with the urge to let the tears he can feel gathering in his eyes fall, "Why would you ask this of me?"
