When we reached my house, Valt became silent, which was strange. Lui looked at him, taking his hand. "You alright?"
Valt nodded, giving him a small smile of reassurance. This didn't settle either of our nerves, but we decided to continue nevertheless. I opened the door and shouted out. "Dad, Ryota, I'm home, and I brought friends."
"Big bro!" Ryota squealed, running up to me with a massive smile on his face, hugging my leg. "You're FINALLY back. And you brought Valt!" He ran over to Valt, jumping on him and erupting into a giggling fit before his gaze turned to Lui. "WOAH! YOU KNOW LUI SHIROSAGI? THAT'S AWESOME!" Ryota got off Valt and ran over to Lui, stars in his eyes. "This is so cool. Can I see Luinor?"
"Ryota!" I scolded, and he frowned at me, obviously upset that he couldn't see Luinor.
"I don't mind," Lui said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out Luinor, handing him over to Ryota. Ryota turned Luinor around in his hands and then grinned, turning to Valt.
"I wanna see Valtryek! Please, please, please! She's so cool!" Valt chucked, pulling Valtryek out and handing her over to Ryota, who showed me both beys. "Look, big bro. I have the two strongest beys in the world!"
"That you do." I agreed
"Now, now, Ryota. Leave the poor boys alone." Dad said, taking the two boys off of him and handing them back to their respected bladers.
"But daaaaad..." Ryota complained
"But nothing. Go and play elsewhere." Dad said, and Ryota left in a huff. Dad smiled at us. "Sorry about that, boys. Nice to see you again, Valt." Valt grinned as Dad turned to Lui. "And you must be Lui. I have heard a lot about you."
"It's a pleasure, sir." Lui put his hand out and my dad shook it. "I apologise for the intrusion."
"You're not intruding," Dad said, which seemed to take him surprised. "Do you boys want to stay for a bit?"
"Before I do stay, I need to call someone," Valt said, picking up his phone and dialling a number. "Is anyone waiting for me?" There was a pause. "Tell her there's no point, I'm gonna be stupidly late." Another pause. "Tell Kris that she couldn't be bothered to bring me back, and you know how bad I am when I have my mind set on something. Is that alright?" Pause. "Great, thanks Free. See you later." He hung up the phone and turned to us, smiling. "I can stay for as long as you want me."
We all chuckled, but inside, I was terrified. I didn't know he was aware of how bad he was, which is a scary thought. How long has he been playing us? I feel like Shu would be disappointed if he knew how self-aware Valt was. We all turned to Lui, who shrugged. "I have no plans, so sure."
We all walked into the living room and sat down, dad looking between the three of us. "Does anybody want any drinks?"
"Hot chocolate!" Valt cheered, and both Lui and I nodded in agreement. Dad went out to make drinks and Lui glanced around.
"It's nice here; cosy," Lui commented, his eyes still wandering around like this feeling was foreign to him. Valt squeezed his hand.
"Who do you live with?" I asked, keeping my eyes trained on Lui.
"It's just me." He replied, without skipping a beat like it was the most normal thing in the world. Did his parents kick him out or something? "Some kid's marks don't form until later on. Sometimes soulmates can change. The oldest person to have ever received a mark was six. On my sixth birthday, I still hadn't gotten a mark, so my parents deemed me as not worthy enough to keep, saying I brought shame upon the family, and then they kicked me out and basically left me for dead. I stole my mum's bey before I left and later won my first tournament, which basically kept me alive."
