Hampton University
Sat. August 28th, 11:00 am
"Orientation Frenzy"Marching Force, Hampton University band, played the black national anthem for the two hundred new students. Some kids were listening while others were busy doing their own thing. Shai checked his watch for the time since he was growing bored of sitting here. Freshmen had an orientation to attend, welcoming them to the school, and he was over it. Sitting for hours, listening to the presidents, dean, and alumni of the school talk about the mission of the university had done it. He was tired from the lack of sleep last night and just wanted to rest.
He was still adjusting to the new environment he was in. Sleeping in a twin sized bed was quite uncomfortable for someone as tall as he was. Shai was brought back to reality once the band stopped playing. A lady came to the mic and started speaking, the lights in the auditorium dimmed.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we now introduce HU Blue Thunder cheerleading team!" The woman spoke into the mic, music starting up after. Shai along with everyone else looked back seeing the cheerleaders coming in the auditorium.
Shai sat up to watch the girls dance down the aisle in their blue and white uniforms. They were all pretty in his opinion and looked much older than him. Axel hit Shai chest a couple of times, getting his attention.
"They bad as fuck." he told his friend. Shai nodded his head in agreement. They both kept their attention on the women as they reached the stage. The music cut off as the team got into their position. They placed their fists on their hips, a girl in the front starting the cheer.
"SAY IT IN OUR FACE, EEYEP! Fight, fight the power. Hey go ahead, go ahead!" The girls stomped and cheered. The rest of the team joining in and the crowd instantly got hyped. Shai saw a few of the freshmen girls standing up, recording and hyping the cheer team up. It was obvious they were feeling it and he didn't blame them because he did too.
The cheerleaders wrapped up their cheer and soon started up another one. As they watched, a boy made his way to Shai and sat in the empty seat beside him.
"Aren't they fine?" The unknown kid asked, Shai turning to him. Surprise and confusion on his face.
The dude turned to look at Shai, a smile on his face. "That's probably nothing for real in your eyes. I know you saw better women cause of your pops." he continued.
"Speaking of your pops-"
"Aye!" Axel interrupted, leaning over Shai. "We're not doing that homie. I'm Axel and this is Shai." he introduced the both of them.
"Right, my fault." the guy apologized. He put his hand out. "I'm Keith. Seventeen. Biochemistry major."
Both Shai and Axel looked at Keith hand. Neither of them wanted to shake it and Keith realized that. He pulled his hand back, acting as if it didn't happen.
"Anyway, these girls are fine right?" He asked again. "I picked out a couple already and can't wait to see them after. Y'all heading to the party later tonight?"
