The car ride to the hospital consisted of Michael and Hanji screaming the lyrics of Cake by the Ocean by DNCE. It was a favorite song among his friends since collage for whatever reason. Levi found the song quite annoying though he knew he was the only one who felt that way. He doesn't know how they could be so happy anyway. They were on their way to the hospital. A place full of death and sickness. Even if Han and Mike hadn't seen each other In years, they shouldn't be this happy, but they were. It reminded Levi of collage. Sitting in between Nanaba and Hanji in the back of Erwin's old car, Erwin tapping the steering wheel, Nanaba laughing, Hanji screaming, Mike matching Hanji's energy. That was when everything had been perfect. Erwin was happy, Hanji was going to get married, Mike and Nanaba where planning on staying on Connecticut. He can exactly remember when everything went downhill.

Just as Cake by the Ocean was ending Hanji got a phone call from the hospital. Levi watched as they put their phone up to their ear, giving their usual cheery greeting asking how they could help. The car was dead silent for a minute too long before Hanji nodded and thanked the caller.

"Erwin was awake for a few seconds," They whispered, throwing their phone up onto the dash. "Asked for Levi."

Levi couldn't do anything but sit in his seat and stare at the phone. Mike's and Hanji's voices drowned out. All he could hear was ringing in his hears over the voices in his head. Erwin had asked for him. Despite everything that had happened within this year, Erwin had woken up and asked for Levi? The man who did nothing but tear him down when he tried to get up. Despite everything that Levi had done to Erwin, the blonde still thought of him, still cared in a way. The rest of the car ride flew past Levi. His mind was elsewhere as Mike and Hanji chatted in the front seat.

Erwin.

Erwin.

Erwin.

Hanji had to practically rip him from the car when they got to the hospital. Levi couldn't stop thinking about it, he really couldn't. But once he walked into the hospital and was hit with the smell of clean, he shuddered. Yes, hospitals smelt clean and for the most part where clean, but they held so much trauma for him. Death and sickness were around every corner. Doctors with masks assuring you that you are to be fine as you are on your death bed. As soon as they got to the desk the lady stood up and started explaining to Hanji how they could not see Erwin and how she would call security if they didn't stop coming back.

"I have both his brother and boyfriend here," Hanji stated.

"My name is Michael Smith, Erwin Smith's older brother." Mike said to the lady.

The woman gave Hanji a look but sat back down and typed away at her computer. It would never fail to make Levi angry to hear how fucking loud receptionists typed on their small little keyboards. And they would talk with their hands with this stupidly long colorful nails. Levi could just never understand why they typed so loud, talked in an odd seductive way, and wore colorful nails, in such a depressing place. Once again, the woman gave Hanji a look but wrote something onto something and passed Mike what looked to be a sticker written visitor on it.

"What about you sugar?" The woman looked to Levi.

"Levi Ackerman, I uh I'm not sure if I'm on his list but I'm his boyfriend," Levi answered.

Once again, she went to typing obnoxiously loud at her computer before frowning. Levi couldn't remember if he had ever been put as Erwin's emergency contact. Erwin never had any medical emergencies, so it was useless to have anyone on that contact listen besides his mother and brother. The only reason Erwin was on Levi's emergency contact was because Levi had no real family. His mother had died ten years ago, his uncle lived in Russia with his husband, and he hadn't spoken to Isabel and Furland in years.
