The child's heart is innocent,
and even more so,
it is ignorant.
We take in core values
from the people who inspire us.
The people we grow with
while we're young.
We are led to believe
that we already know what is right and what is wrong.
It's only a matter of time,
before other influences
begin to whisper their 'truths'.
Whether they be that,
or lies.
By the time we find out,
it's usually too late.
But, who are we to know better
at the time?
Part of having an open mind,
is trying to understand both sides.
And the only way to do that,
is to live on both ends.
We feel ashamed of the mistakes we've made,
The people we've wronged.
Hiding behind a smile,
nowhere near as innocent as
we make it out to be.
We try to forget,
masking our demons in the light
that others bring.
But,
forgetting would be a waste
of a hard lesson learned.
Everyone knows,
that the brightest lights
come from the darkest places 🖤🤍
