William ran over to me the second I opened the door. "Are you alright? What injuries do we have to treat?" He moved my face side to side to examine it.
"I'm fine. They didn't hurt me today. I zoned out, and they got bored."
"Are you kidding? They never do that." He gaped as I threw myself onto the couch, shrugging.
"William, I want pizza."
"Of course, Princess." I grinned. He had called me Princess for as long as I could remember and I loved it.My mother walked into my room. I stared wide-eyed at her drunk form and pushed William out of the room as she started hitting me.
An hour later, William and I were sitting in my jail-cell simple room on the bed. He reached up and touched my cheek, the target of most of my mother's hits.
I winced, staring up at his dark brown eyes. "Can I help make dinner tonight?"
"Of course. Just try not to poison your mother." He winked at me.
"I wouldn't do that right away; it's too obvious. I have to gain her trust first." I said as seriously as I could. I was kidding, but I wanted to see his reaction. His look of utter horror set off my laughter. "Oh... My... God... That was hilarious." He smiled and leaned in closer and closer and closer and... kissed my cheek.
"C'mon, we should go get started before your mother fires me."
Jonathan was already there when we got to the kitchen. "Make me a snack you good for nothing butler." I scowled. Doesn't he realize that without William, he would be the one forced to cook and clean? William put a hand on my shoulder, instantly calming me down.
"Of course Jonathan. What would you like?" William smiled.
"A bowl of blackberries and for you to get your filthy hands off of my sister." William quickly removed all contact between the two of us, knowing full well that Jonathan would get him fired if he didn't. He got Jonathan's bowl of blackberries and Jonathan left.
We began making dinner. William did all of the severe cooking, and I made the bread and cake. He turned to me and chuckled, wiping frosting off of my cheek and licking it off of his fingers. "Did you make this yourself?"
I nodded. "Store bought frosting tastes like chemicals."
He smiled at me. "You're going to make a wonderful mother someday." I snorted.
"If I make it that long. I might not, you know? Even then, I'm not very good with guys hence the 'no-friends-never-had-a-boyfriend' loner that I am."
Dinner time came quickly, and soon my mother, father, Jonathan, and I were all seated around the table. My father being there had shocked me. He was always away for business, almost never home.
"William, set out four extra plates. We have company." He ordered with his usual icy business tone. The doorbell rang right as William finished setting the places. I was overjoyed. The longer the guests stayed, the longer I would be safe.
William opened the door and our guests filed in. A man and a woman both in their forties walked in first. They were followed by a boy a year older than me and three people I knew well- Blake, Jake, and Toby. William and I stiffened, and Jonathan laughed. He knows what they do to me, he just finds it funny.
