I watched her scramble into the kitchen, that damned butler following her. The butler was glaring at me, and I gulped. What if he knows what we do to her? Then I noticed the bruise on her cheek which hadn't been there this afternoon. Maybe we aren't the only ones that hit her.
"I'll be right back," I mumble, following them. The butler was on the floor next to her, trying to comfort her crying form. I crouched in front of her. "I'm not the only one who beats you, am I?" She shook her head, crying harder.
The butler glared at me. "What do you care?" He snapped.
I turned to him, "Can I talk to you? In private?" He looked at Olivia, and they seemed to have a silent conversation. He stood up and motioned me into an adjacent room with him. I looked at him, "I know you probably hate me-"
"Probably? Words cannot describe how much I despise you! You hurt the only good thing in my life! Olivia is the only ray of light in this house of darkness. How dare you?" This guy is hella overprotective. My eyes widened.
"I know that! Believe me; I know that. I like her, okay? I just- It started because she wouldn't talk to me and now my friends- I- You can't tell anyone, okay? You're the only one who knows about this and- why are you smiling?"
"It's peer pressure? It's all just peer pressure?" He laughed. "Hey man, if you like her then you like her. You're the only one that ever has. I'm her only friend." He got close to me. "But if you ever hurt her again, I will skin you alive with a cheese grater."
I held my hands up in surrender. "How old are you?" I knew that if this guy was in the right age group and went after her, there was no way I would be able to compete. He was good for her and they were already good friends.
"I'm four years older than you. I'm twenty." I let out a sigh of relief, thankful for his age. She didn't seem the type that would be interested in an age gap like that. "Were you scared I was going to take her from you?" He smirked at me.
"Of course I'm scared some guy a thousand times better than me is going to come along and love her better than I can. I'm screwed if she finds anyone good for her."
We walked back into the kitchen after a few more very detailed and immensely disturbing threats from him. Olivia was standing on the counter, trying to reach something on the top shelf. She started to wobble and he quickly caught her before getting the plates and cups himself to set the extra two plates needed because I brought my idiot friends.
The butler turned to me. "I'm William, by the way." He handed Olivia a set of the items and they walked out of the kitchen together with me following closely behind.
