It's ten o'clock on a slow day, making my shift crawl by in the small diner, Freddy's.

"Ugh, I can't take this." I moan while plopping down on a red stool at the counter and burying my head into my hands.

"Oh, cheer up, Callie!" Tamara chirps beside me.

"Make it shut up and go away. I can't handle the annoying buzzing in my ear," I tell my boss, Angelina, who is unique and carefree and the best boss I've ever had.

She starts laughing. "What's got our ray of sunshine down?"

"I feel like death," I complain.

"Our little ray of sunshine here was kept up all night because of a certain someone," Tamara comments with a smirk.

"Oh, who?" Angelina asks while clapping her hands like a five-year-old.

"Her incredibly hot neighbor, Mr. Sex-on-legs." Tam laughs at her answer to Angela.

"Do you want to work or do something useful since you're always here?" I glare, my tone heavy on sarcasm.

"And what would be the fun when I can sit here all day and annoy you without lifting a finger?" If looks could kill, she would be six feet under by now.

"So, back to this neighbor," Angelina asks while leaning her elbows against the diner counter.

"Nothing," I respond quickly, then glance down at the counter. "He was just having fun with a friend all night long. I couldn't get any sleep, and then the arrogant ass dared to knock on my door and demand that I keep it down! And even though everything got quiet after I told him off, I still couldn't sleep afterward. So here I am like a zombie because the asshole next door couldn't keep it in his pants." I huff after my long rant while picking apart a napkin.

"Wow, that's the most I've ever heard you curse. He must really get under your skin." Angelina replies, surprised.

"Oh, she wishes," Tamara comments while trying to choke back a laugh. I turn and smack her just as the bell above the diner door jingles, causing all of us to look over. Freddy's is a fifties inspired diner with red checkered title.

"Speak of the devil, and he shall appear," I mumble.

"Oh, that's him? Wow, he's like an attractive Greek...no...no, Italian god with all that bronzed skin and those muscles." Angelina, who was like forty-something, squeals.

"How about you take this one, Cal?" Says my former best friend with a knowing smirk, and I return with a glare.

"Yeah, Callie, take this one." Angelina pipes in.

"It's not like I have much of a choice since he's sitting in my section anyway," I say while I walk over to his red booth.

I stop next to him and mutter, "What do you want?" While glaring at him and placing a menu in front of him.

"Now that's not very good customer service," Nico scolds as he grabs the menu and starts searching through it. "You should work on that," he advises, sounding completely serious.

"Fine." With my voice coated in sarcasm and the best fake smile I can muster, I say, "Welcome, sir. My name is Callie, and I'll be your waitress today. What can I get for you?" I'm smiling so hard that my face hurts.

His look is one of amusement. "That's more like it. I'll take a black coffee, and... there's just so much to choose from. What do you recommend, sweetie?" Sweetie?

"I don't know; it depends on what you are in the mood for," I say, exasperated.

"Oh, I'm in the mood for many things." His eyes darken. The hidden message lingers beyond his words. I gape and blush at his response.
