I jump up, determined to stop the monster from doing his works of evil, and I see an angel hiding in the corner. This monster is a beast on the outside, but a coward at the heart, for only a coward would prey upon those who will not fight back.

I lunge at the beast, desperate to put as much space between him and the angel. The monster snarls and jumps to defend itself, a slight twang of pain mixed with hot blood fills my left jaw. I rebound and take a swing, two, three, and it falls to the ground, dead to the world.

I tell her it's alright now, to get out of here, to go somewhere where they can't bother her. She looks at me with such thankfulness and I turn, headed to the door.
