I sit there doing nothing for a moment, taken aback by my mother's revelation. I stare at here, what else has she lied about?
"What? How could you?"
"Morgan, what's wrong?"
All I can see is my childhood memories of my parents, always yearning for the day I found the one who could make me as happy as them. I see the little girl who was always so grateful that her parents were meant for one another. Then, I see current self standing next to the little girl, telling her all the lies and the secrets, sending her dream crashing down.
"You lied to dad! He doesn't deserve this! He deserves to know that he is married to someone who isn't mutual in their relationship!"
"No, you have it all wrong. Yes, he doesn't know I'm a mutation, but he is my muse."
"How can he be if you're a mutation?"
"That's what I though you were going to ask. A long time before you were born, and before I met your dad, there was this man named Jacob Smith. I had liked Jacob for so long, aching at the chance to be his muse. Imagine my surprise when he told me after bumping into him that I made him see color, when I still saw a grey world. I told Jacob that I saw color; this is when I found out about mutation and that I was one. Jacob and I dated all throughout high school, until he proposed in college. I accepted and we married, but I still had not told him my secret. Well, three years later, I went to the library to check out the latest book in my favorite series at the time. Well, I got to the aisle and went to reach for the book, when my hand was met with another. My world instantaneously came to life. I turned around a looked into the bright green eyes of a man in glasses. We stood there staring at each other for what seemed liked the longest time. I had finally met my muse. It was then that I decided to tell Jacob the truth. I went home, and broke the news to him, not about the man, but about not seeing color by him. He took the news hard and filed for a divorce. Through the duration of the divorce,I dated that man."
"That man is my father, right?"
