I stood as still as I possibly could. I breathed slow and heavy. There was a low growl. I very very slowly turned around to face what was there. A large black wolf. The eyes, they were red where it should be white, and the iris was green. My breathing became heavier and faster.
The wolf bared its teeth at me. I screamed as loud as I could, or at least I thought I did. The sound never escaped my lungs. The wolf had its paw on my chest and I was pinned against the road. It stared at me, its nose just a few inches away from mine. It seemed to be staring into my eyes, and I stared back into its terrifyingly beautiful eyes.
It growled quick and disappeared into the woods. I released all the air in my lungs and scrambled up. I ran to my truck and drove as fast as I could. I reached my house and darted inside. I locked all the doors and leaned against the wall by the stairs. I slid down unable to take my eyes from the sliding glass doors that led outside. I stared out into the darkness. I wanted to look away, but I couldn't.
I was terrified that I would see the eyes again, but not because they were scary but because I WANTED to see them again.
I took a deep breath and went upstairs to shower and change. I spent the day just staring at the window until it was finally time to rest. I tossed and turned for a few hours but finally drifted off to sleep.
