I was sitting in the local jailcell crying silently not sure how I was going to get out of this. I had been here 24 hours already. My Mama had been down to see me but told me she didn't have the money to get me out and didn't know what she was going to do. I refused to let her call Derrick. I hadn't slept all night terrified of what would happen to me if I did. I was struggling to keep my eyes open when the cop came to the jailcell door.
"Ms. Carter, the charges have been dropped and your bail had been paid." The cop said and I was confused by who. I just stood up when he opened the jailcell and I walked out to the main area and I saw Derrick standing there and I sighed. He saw me and rushed over to hug me which I accepted.
"I told mama not to tell you." I whispered and he shook his head. Once we pulled apart he placed a hand on my cheek.
"She didn't, Fisher did. She came to rub in my face about you kissing Jimmy and then said she confronted you on town and had you arrested." Derrick said as my eyes filled with tears.
"You know the truth about me kissing Jimmy and you still bailed me out?" I asked and he nodded. He got his copy of the paperwork and we left.
"Derrick, I can't go home right now...please." I said and he nodded.
"I know, you are coming to my house. My family is out of town visiting my grandmother, so it will just be us." Derrick said and I gave a small smile. We started driving to his house.
"So, you kissed Jimmy...?" Derrick asked and I sighed.
"I did, stupid really. I don't know what happened." I said.
"Do you love him?" Derrick asked.
"Only as a friend." I hoped he believed my lie because right now I was having to will this to now be true. I couldn't love Jimmy anymore. Derrick took ahold of my hand and I smiled at him.
"I just couldn't believe Fisher coming to rub this all in my face. I was so pissed Tillie, she was laughing when she said she got you arrested. I knew I had to come and get you." Derrick said and I smiled.
"Thank you for getting me. I didn't get any sleep being there last night, I was so scared." I said and Derrick lifted my hand, kissing my knuckles.
"Well now I got you and we are going to go to my place." Derrick said and I nodded. Once we got to his place his maid was waiting for us at the door.
"Ms. Carter, such a pleasure to see you." She said and I smiled. She looked down and Derrick still had a hold of my hand.
"Margie, can you please draw a hot bath for Tillie and then make her some breakfast and bring it to the bedroom." Derrick said.
"Which bedroom sir?" She asked and I looked at Derrick and he looked at me.
"Is it okay if she brings it to mine?" Derrick asked and I nodded.
"That would be wonderful." I said and Derrick smiled. Margie nodded and headed upstairs to the bathroom to draw the bath. Derrick led me upstairs to his sisters room.
"Pick out some clothes trust me she won't even notice." Derrick said and I smiled. I started going through he clothes and picked out a dress for later in the day and a nightgown to sleep in and put on after my bath. I walked into the bathroom and saw the bath ready and Margie standing there.
"All ready for you Ms. Carter." Margie said and I smiled.
"Thank you Margie and please call me Tillie." I said and she smiled. I undressed and got in the steaming hot bath and instantly relaxed.

After the bath and breakfast Derrick and I were lying in his bed together as he read some poetry to me from his book as my head rested on his shoulder, I was content and drifting off to sleep.
"Tills..." I heard Derrick call me and I sighed.
"Please don't call me Tills." I said and he sighed.
"Bad memories?" Derrick asked and I nodded. He kissed the top of my head.
"Can I read you a poem I found the other day that I think is perfect for you?" Derrick asked and I nodded. He flipped through his book to find it. I loved this side of Derrick, he was sweet, caring, romantic and just all around amazing. With what happened I was surprised he even still wanted to be with me. He found the page with the poem on it and started reading.
"She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smiled, even if she was sad. No, she wasn't beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful."
I smiled up at him as he smiled down at me
"I love it." I said and Derrick sighed.
"I love you Tillie." Derrick said and I leaned into his lips and kissed him. He placed the book beside us without breaking our kiss. He laid me down and hovered over me. He pulled back from the kiss and looked at me, both of us wanting.
"Are you sure?" Derrick asked and I nodded
"Yes Derrick, I want to be with you." I said and he passionately kissed me again removing the nightgown.
