4. The Engagement

The knock on the door disturbed Nandini's chain of random thoughts and she sighed before opening the door.

Mayank and Mirvaan smiled at her to which she reciprocated heartily.

"I'm Mayank...And this is Mirvaan..." Mayank said with a smile and she replied "Hi Mayank...Hello Mirvaan...Please come in..."

They moved inside and she showed the couch saying "Please sit..."

"Umm...Aapse ek baar baat karna tha...Bhabhi..." Mayank said looking at her expression for hearing Bhabhi so early.

She smiled and he asked "We can call you bhabhi na...!? Is it too early...!?"

She nodded in a no and said "You can..."

Both the boys looked at each other with a wide smile and Mayank continued "Bhabhi...Bhai might have told you about us and our family...I'm sure he would have said that you have to take care of everyone of us...But Bhabhi... That's not needed...Aap bas bhai ka khyaal rakhiye...Just take care of him..."

Nandini, though frowned, looked at him with admiration as Mayank continued "Bhabhi... Bachpan se...After our parents' demise, bhai was always there with us...Kuch kami nahi hone diya...He gave us everything...All the support...Physically, mentally, financially and for that, he struggled all alone...He never let us know or face any difficulty that he has come across...But there was no one to take care of him...Mama ji was there to guide him but mujhe patha hai he didn't have anyone to share his feelings or emotions with...At the age of making friends, he has the responsibility of bringing us up...He never had time to even make friends...He didn't have an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on...to vent out what's going on...He will never say it loud but acts strong for us..."

He paused for a second and continued "We have only one request Bhabhi...Just be there for him...Hum...we will take care of ourselves...We promise that we will never give you a chance to complain...We will make sure that you will feel home and in fact you will not miss your parents...We will be at our best behaviour...Bas aap take care of bhai...Please..."

He nudged Mirvaan and he quickly said "Yes yes Bhabhi...I also promise..."

Nandini smiled looking at them and wiped the traces of tears at the corner of her eyes before saying "I don't know if I can thank you enough...But seriously Mayank...Thank you so much...for letting me know a bit more about your brother which I don't think he will ever confess...It really means a lot...And I promise to always be there with him..."

The boys smiled widely and said in unison "Thank you so much Bhabhi..."

She ruffled Mayank's hair and lightly kissed on Mirvaan's forehead making them experience her affection for the first time.

They got into a regular conversation about their college and school till Manik knocked on the open door gaining their attention saying "What's going on here guys...!?"

Three of them turned to see Manik and Nandini stood at her place. Seeing her, Mayank stood and Mirvaan ran towards Manik and hugged his waist saying "Baba...We like Bhabhi a lot...Hume bahut pasand aayi..."

Manik smiled at him and looked at Nandini with a smile and she bent her head being shy as he said "Mujhe bhi"

She looked at him with a blush and their eye lock was broken when Mirvaan asked "When will she come to our home...!?"

"Um...in a month..." Manik said with a little frown and just then Anjali entered.

She smiled at the boys and looked at Nandini saying "Appa is calling you both...To take rings for roka..."

She turned to Manik and said "Damad ji...Aap bhi chaliye..."

"Jii" He nodded and Mayank and Mirvaan rushed to the living room first.
