5. The Waiting

Manik and his family left after all the rituals and discussions while Nandini's parents were so happy with the alliance and marriage preparations.

Manik laid on his bed and looked at his ring with a smile remembering their moment during the engagement. He chuckled remembering her innocent face and took his mobile but stopped thinking if he can call or not.

"Let's try" He thought and texted 'Hi'

Nandini smiled seeing his message and then looked at her mother who was having dinner beside her.

"Ask damad ji about your office as well..." She said and went to the kitchen making Nandini smile and rush to her room with her mobile.

'Hii' She replied.

Mr: What's up?

Mrs: Nothing. Just had dinner. U?

Mr: yeah done just now. Call?

Nandini blushed and replied with a smiley and Manik called the next second. She answered it with a smile saying 'Hello'

"Hey." He said but both were silent after that not knowing what to talk.

"Umm...Even I thought of texting you...Kuch puchna tha aapse..." She said after a brief silence and he sat straight to listen "Yeah go on..."

"Wo actually...I will go and resign tomorrow but as per company's policy, I need to attend office for 2 weeks...for handing over the work and other things...Maa said to take permission from you...So..." She said and dragged slowly.

He sighed and replied "What's there to take permission for this Nandini...!? I wanted you to be a house wife after marriage...Now you don't need my permission...Also, even I know about this policy...It's actually 3 months in our company...Yours is very less..."

"Yeah...It's just a start-up company...So..." She said.

"Okay...Fine then...But will you be able to manage wedding preparations and office...!?" He asked.

"Yeah yeah...I'll go for shopping after office hours and anyways after 2 weeks, I'll be free na...So can manage...Appa and Maa will be taking care of other things..." She replied.

"Cool" He sighed with a smile.

"Thank you" She said slowly and he replied "No need to thank me...at least for now..."

"Bache so gaye kya...!?" She asked and his face beamed with happiness for the way she addressed his brothers.

"Haan...Mirvaan slept...Mayank has some project work..." He said with a bright smile.

A few seconds of silence later, he said "It's getting late...Go and sleep...Will talk tomorrow..."

"Jii" She said controlling the second yawn and wished each other good night before cutting the call.

While Nandini dozed off being tired, Manik was too happy that he has finally found his girl.

Their usual messages and calls now and then has started and the days went by.

Five days later, Friday evening,

Manik came to his cabin after a meeting and took his mobile to text Nandini.

'Hi'

No reply

'Hello'

No reply even after 15 minutes. He checked the time and it was 5:30 PM. He tried to call her but she declined his call in the first ring and a message popped up saying 'At work. Will call you back.'

Manik closed his eyes in frustration and took deep breaths to calm himself and thought 'Glad that I asked her to quit...If she can keep my messages and calls as secondary now itself, this can happen in future as well...'
