Tails POV

"Ugh, a new school," I groaned under my breath. I was really upset, but also relieved. People used to bully me at my old school because of my two tails, but I also had a really good friend named Jocelyn. She was a red wolf with white tips on her ears. She was my best friend and I felt bad about having to leave her. I still kept in touch with her though.

I got too caught up in my thoughts and I ended up running into someone and crashed into a locker. Everything went black after that. I ended up waking up in the nurse's office. "Hey, are you ok?" I heard a voice. I looked up to see a blue hedgehog. "I think so," I said. "Why am I here?" "You ran into me and crashed into a locker," he told me.

"Who even are you?" I asked. "The name's Sonic," he told me. "You?" "Well, my name is Miles Prower, but my friends and family call me Tails," I said as I showed him my tails. "You have two tails," he said. "That's so cool!" "Really?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said. "I've never seen you here. Are you the new kid?" "Yeah," I said. "Well, I can show you around if you want," he told me. "But I hope you can keep up!" He dashed off after saying that. "Hey! Wait for me, you idiot!" I said as I ran after him.

After I caught up and he finished showing me around, we went to class. "You're late," the teacher said. She was a gray wolf with a white tip on her tail. "Mr. Hedgehog, detention for you." "He was showing me around!" I defended. "I'm sorry, fox, but rules are rules," she said. "And who are you?" "I'm the new kid," I said hesitantly. "Well then, why don't you introduce yourself to the class?" she told me.

"Um... I'm Miles Prower, but my friends call me Tails," I said. As soon as the class saw my two tails, most of them started laughing. "What is that, a disease?!" a white cat said. "Is that thing infected?" a small bee added. "Charmy, Ollie, stop that right now!" the teacher said. "You two can join Sonic in detention today!"

"Whatever!" the cat hissed, Ollie, I believe was his name. "I'm so sorry about that, Miles," the teacher said. "You may go sit next to Cream. Cream, please let him know who you are." A small rabbit raised her hand, letting me know who she is. I sat next to her and Sonic went to hi seat as the teacher started the lesson.

"Psst, hey," I heard a voice behind me. I turned around and saw a black hedgehog. "Why do you have two tails?" "I'm not sure," I whispered. "It's just how I was born." "It's pretty cool," he said. "Thanks, but you don't have to be nice," I said. "I know they're an eyesore."

"Maybe to most kids, but us popular kids have a soft spot for differences like that," he said. "It lets us know that you've been bullied in the past and came back stronger." "Excuse me!" I heard the teacher. "Shadow, Miles, no talking in class! Miles, this is your first day, so I'll let you off with a warning, but if it happens again, you'll be in detention. As for you, Shadow, you know better! Detention!"

"Miles, was it?" the black hedgehog said, Shadow, I believe. "Sorry that I got you in trouble," he said. "No hard feelings," I replied. "I know having a new student is exciting, but we better pay attention." "Good call," Shadow said. "Miles! Shadow!" the teacher snapped. "I thought I told you no talking! Miles, I tried to give you a warning, but you continued to talk to Shadow, so I'm sorry, but you have to serve detention."

"Ugh, my parents are going to kill me," I said. Shadow passed me a note. "Sorry for getting you in detention," I read. I wrote back to him and passed it. "It's ok, I'm used to it. People used to get me in trouble on purpose," it read. He smiled. Everyone around him gasped. "He never smiles!" Sonic said. "This is unusual for him," the rabbit, Cream, I think, said.

"Give me that note," the teacher said. She opened it and read it. "Shadow, I appreciate that you're trying to make Miles feel welcomed, but please pay attention," she said. After our first class, we headed to our next class. Shadow and Sonic decided to walk with me. Multiple girls were staring at Shadow, some even saying he's hot. Shadow groaned and tried to ignore them.

"I hate being popular," he said. "Well, you might lose popularity for being friends with me," I said. "That's what makes me popular," he replied. "I'm nice to kids who are different than others." The bee, Charmy, I believe his name was, stood in front of us. "Aww, how touching," he said sarcastically. "You have to be protected by the popular kid and his boyfriend."

Sonic and Shadow blushed. "He's not my boyfriend!" Shadow growled. "He's just my friend!" "Ugh! Leave us alone, Charmy!" Sonic growled. "I can protect myself," I growled under my breath. "Well then, prove it!" Charmy said. "Meet me outside of school tomorrow. I challenge you to hand-to-hand combat!" I was afraid, but I tried not to show it. "Challenge accepted!" I snapped.

After Charmy walked away, Shadow and Sonic stared at me for a second. "What are you doing?!" Sonic asked. "Charmy is one of the strongest fighters in the entire school!" "He could beat you into the dirt!" Shadow said. "Don't worry," I said. "I know what I'm doing." In reality, I don't know what I was thinking, but I didn't want anyone to know that.

After going to the rest of our classes, school was finally over. I went to detention and when it was over, I was so relieved. Before I left, Sonic and Shadow gave me their numbers so I can text them later. I immediately took out my phone and texted Jocelyn.

"How was your first day?" she texted. "Not bad, I guess," I texted back. "I already made some friends, but I got detention and there's a bully." "Is that why it took you so long to text me?" I read. "Yeah," I texted. "I hope your next day is better." "Me too. TTYL!" "TTYL, Tails!"

As soon as I got home, my mom was infuriated. "Tails, you got detention on your first day?!" "I'm sorry!" I said. "Another student was talking to me and he was making me feel welcomed to the school!" "I understand, but you know better!" she said. "Who was this student? I'm reporting him to the principal!"

"He's my friend, mom!" I snapped. "You can't do that!" "He got you in trouble, Tails!" she snapped. "I'm reporting him whether you like it or not! What's his full name?!" "I'm not telling you!" I growled. "He's my friend and you can't make me report him!" I immediately stormed to my room.
