Back to You - Kazuha

You took a seat in your room at the inn you'd been staying at. Worry was gripping your mind lately, and your hands clutched your clothes as if to try and hold onto something, anything to get a grip mentally.

You had not seen Kaedehara Kazuha for a month and a half now. The last few times you had seen him, he had grown increasingly distant each time.

"What did I do? What have I done?"

Nothing but questions wracked your brain. Even as you had completed that day's list of commissions, you could think of nothing else. People were starting to catch on too. You always made a point to chat with Katheryn when you completed your tasks, but now you kept things short. She had asked you if anything was wrong, but you only grimaced and told her not to worry.

You loved Kazuha, and you had thought that he felt the same about you.

"Apparently none of it ever mattered. I should've known he'd never say in one place too long."

You shook your head and buried your face in your hands. You tried to stop yourself from crying - something you had wanted to do for a few weeks now - and failed to do so. Why would Kazuha want to ditch you like that after spending so much time with you? He had always been so kind and sweet. It was completely out of character for him. There were too many questions without answers and it was taking its toll on you.

You tried to cry yourself to sleep and when that didn't work, you took a long walk around the town you were staying at. Then, you went back to bed early that next morning. You did not get up until late in the afternoon.

On autopilot, you found yourself going through the motions of the day, only bitter now that Kazuha could do something like this to you. Surely there had to be a good reason he left you? A darker part of your mind said no, probably not. So you checked the quest board in the town and got started on your commissions. They were all big ones too, but nothing you couldn't handle.

Normally, you tried to take a few commissions of various sizes and difficultly so that you wouldn't get too burnt out. But today, you picked four very large commissions.

"Y/N, are you sure about this? You look like you've barely slept or ate! You've got to pace yourself, this isn't going to go well-" Katheryn pleaded with you.

You shook your head and faked a tiny smile. "It'll be fine."

"But it's already past midday! Please at least limit yourself to just two of them if you must pick such challenging missions."

You had no patience to argue with Katheryn. You had to get yourself absorbed in your work and ignore what was going on between Kazuha and you. So you just smiled again and walked away. Katheryn stood there, worried as could be.

Your first commission was to take out four ruin guards so that an investigation team could begin exploration of the site. You took them head on, not caring how reckless you were, or what scrapes you were sustaining. When those were taken care of, you trudged onto the next.

By the third commission, you were panting. What was once a very large hilichurl camp lay devastated around you and you fell to your knees out of exhaustion.

"Katheryn was right," you murmured out loud with a chuckle. "What am I doing...? Where are you, Kazu? Huh? Why did you leave without a word?"

You beat your fist on the ground and stood up weakly. Time for the next commission, right? Deep down though, you wanted to stop.

Somewhere on the way to your next commission, you found a shallow cave and crawled inside to rest. It was nighttime now, and the trees fluttered in what was left of the evening breeze. You took a deep breath of the fresh air and thought about what you had just done, how reckless it was. But it felt good, taking out all that frustration on something rather than someone who didn't deserve it.
