chapter 31, shut up preppy
"HAVE YOU SEEN Charlie anywhere? Just anywhere? I really need him." Cassidy runs up to Guy and Connie, a panicked look on her face. They stared at her in shock at how she was panicking.
"Whoa, Frankenstein, you okay?" Guy questioned, putting a hand on her shoulder. Cassidy was practically shaking out of her nerves, constantly cracking her joints and tapping her foot.
"Yeah, you don't look too well." Connie mentioned, a frown on her face. Cassidy breathes in and out, her breathing at an un-level state.
"I don't know. I just need my brother!" She exclaimed in a panic, looking around frantically for him.
"Okay, okay. Last time we saw him, he said he was going to make some moves on Linda. Some girl he likes." Guy said, remembering what happened just a few minutes earlier.
"Shit." Cassidy cursed under her breath.
"Why, what's bothering you Cass?" Connie asked her. Cassidy was about to tell her about what happened between her and Adam and the reason why until her eyes caught onto a pair of brown eyes.
It glares at her, Cassidy gulping in fear when she knows the message he's sending her. She just puts a hand on her arm, looking back at her friends.
"I'm okay now, I just have a test coming up. That's all." She nodded before walking away from them and down the halls.
Connie and Guy sent each other the same look of worry for the brunette girl. There was definitely something weird going on with her.
"It appears the entire school has turned out to see the once Mighty Ducks, I mean, rather, the um, Eden Hall Warriors do battle with the Blake freshman Bears."
Everyone in the crowd sat down comfortably while the team piled into the rink. When Cassidy steps into the rink, she didn't feel the joy rush through her veins like she always does before a game. She just looked down at her skates and avoided any eye contact with anyone in the crowd.
"Is it just me, or is Frankenstein acting weird? I mean, her and Adam are being completely distant." Averman commented, noticing how off the girl was.
Everyone else around him — excluding the Conway twins — nodded their heads in agreement.
The crowd erupted in a cheer, Cassidy finally looking up. She saw her Mom clapping for them in the crowd, giving her a small smile. And then she noticed him in the crowd.
Cameron Williams waves at her with a sweet smile, Cassidy knew better than to ignore it or else she would get an ear full later on. She forced a smile, waving back at him.
From the corner of the crowd, sat Adam Banks who watches the whole thing happen. He sat there with a frown on his face, knowing that maybe this guy was going to be the one for her instead of him.
"Gather around. Come on, hustle up." Orion instructed while the team gathers in. "All right, think defense. All right, hands in. Here we go."
The team started chanting their original cheer, Cassidy only mumbling parts of it but then it was shut down by Orion.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What the hell's that? Knock that off." Orion said, looking around at all of them. "Okay, 'go team' on two. One, two."
"Go team." They all mumbled, sounding very bore. Cassidy was quick to skate out on the ice, holding her stick by her side.
"Get them, Frankenstein!" Orion yelled at her, she just glanced at him before shaking her head. Cassidy was tired. Real tired.
"Point of fact, Charlie Conway is not wearing the traditional captain C. Instead, his sister Cassidy Conway is wearing it! He's been this team's captain since they played in District Five. I guess Coach Orion is making a statement."
As the game started, the puck was quickly passed to Fulton. Who knocks over some players on the opposite team. By the boards, Cassidy skates slowly but her stick open.
"Hey, what's up with little Conway?" Rick questioned, watching her skate with a frown on her face. The whole team shrugged their shoulders. Usually she would be hustled up but not this time.
Just then, Fulton passes the puck to Charlie who skated up to the goalie and gets a point for his team. They all celebrate but Cassidy doesn't join in on the hug.
"Okay, knock off the celebration. Act like you've scored before, huh?" Orion yelled, ruining everyone's mood. "What's wrong with Cassidy? How come she's not into the game?"
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's knuckle puck time!" Russ exclaims only for the puck to hit the goalie in the helmet. Cassidy was the closest to the goalie as she hits the puck into the net.
The team celebrates once again, Cassidy just shrugging it off and skating back to her side. Then, Luis had the puck and he was skating fast towards the goal but the man had no breaks.
When he shoots the puck into the net, he jumps over it and bumped into the boards. Cassidy was put into the box, resting her head in her hands as she watches.
The score was now 8-0 and Cassidy hasn't been put on since she scored. Orion sighed, dragging his hands on his face and then made his decision.
"Charlie, in the box. Cassidy, you're in." Charlie sighed and enters the box while Cassidy goes out on the ice, a bored look on her face.
"Yeah! Let's go Cass!" She hears Cameron yell from the crowd. Cassidy sucks in a breath, rolling her eyes.
"Shut up, preppy." She mumbled as the game started. Guy passed the puck to her and she immediately starts hustling up, twirling around each player until she shoots and scores but then was knock down by one of the other players.
She felt anger rush through her and she got up, slamming the her stick down on the ice. The player smirks at her, Cassidy was angrier than before as she pushes him down.
"Huh? How do you like it? Being pushed down by a girl? Eat the ice, eat it!" Cassidy shouts at him, making everyone in the crowd gasp. The team stares at her in shock, she has never fought someone like this.
The girl shoved the boy's face onto the ice while she hovered above him, yelling insults at him. Cassidy was then pulled away from the player by Charlie.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Charlie yelled at her. Cassidy glares at him, shoving his shoulder while she made her way to the penalty box.
"Where the hell is my clothes?" Cassidy exclaimed in anger. That caught everyone's attention and they walk over to the showers which was on.
They then noticed a pile of wet clothes on the floor. "They put my clothes in the—? Come on!"
Cassidy clenches her fists, storming away. "Cassidy, where are you going?" Guy yelled out.
"I'm going to kill those preppy assholes!" She screams. She ran out of the changing rooms. Cassidy noticed the Varsity team laughing as they were about to enter their changing rooms for their upcoming game but then she stops them.
"Hey, cake-eaters!" She yells at them, they turn around, a smirk plastered on Rick's face.
"Hey there Conway." Smiling down at her, Cassidy glares at them.
"You think this is funny? You think messing with my team is funny?" Cassidy tilts her head to the side. Adam looked down at his shoes in guilt.
"Well, sometimes." Cole responded with a loud laugh.
"Shut up Cole!" Adam harshly warned him. Cassidy's eyes went to him, glaring at the blonde boy. Her hand was brought to the necklace around her neck, gripping onto it as she rips it off.
Adam stares at him in shock, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Traitor." She said before dropping the necklace on the ground and storming off. No one knew what was happening to Cassidy. Not even she knew.
But one thing was for sure, is that Cameron Williams was finally getting what he wants.
