chapter 40, two way hockey

"MENDOZA. FULTON." COACH Orion checked off all the team players that stepped foot on the bus. Cassidy looked over to Charlie with a small smile on her face before they both walked up the three small steps.

Orion's face looked up from the checklist, staring at the twins with shock written on his face. "Conway's?"

"We want to be on the team, Coach. We want to play two way hockey." Charlie spoke up, smiling slightly. "Can we come back?"

Orion lips twitch up in a smile when he looked at the two brunettes. "Take a seat, we're going to be late. Let's to. We got a game to catch."

Everyone on the bus began cheering and while they walked down the bus, they high five all their friends.

As Charlie took a seat beside Russ, he began making fun of him. "Oh man, you should have seen your face. 'Oh, Coach, I want to play two way hockey. Can I come back?'"

Charlie shook his head, lifting his hand up and punching Russ' arm. Everyone else began to snicker until someone came inside of the bus.

"I almost missed you." He said, a smile on his face. "Coach, mind if I have a word with your boys?"

Julie looked up, a scowl on her face and Cassidy and her share the same look, before speaking up. "And girls!"

"Yeah, of course, and girls." Dean awkwardly chuckled when the two girls roll their eyes.

"If you cab make it quick, Dean. We're running late as it is." Orion spoke.

"I'm afraid this is important." Dean stood up. "We have a board meeting scheduled tomorrow, and, well, you all are on the agenda. We have to think long term here. What's in your best interest. Hard as it is for me personally, because you kids have been a breath of fresh air around here, the board is going to approve the withdrawal of your scholarships."

Cassidy's eyes widen ever so slightly, looking down at her lap sadly snd everyone did the same. "Now, you'll be welcome to stay through the end of the semester, but after that, it will he necessary for you to enjoy other educational opportunities."

"Educational opportunities my ass." Cassidy suddenly spoke up, standing up from her seat. Dean's eyes widen and everyone turned their head to look at the brunette.

"Excuse me, young lady?" Dean chuckled nervously at the angered look on her face.

"Look, I know this is Rick Riley's doing. Just because he talked to his preppy ass of a dad about taking away our scholarships, doesn't mean we'll back down." Cassidy crossed her arms. "So, try to withdrawal our scholarships, I dare you."

Orion looked back at the girl with a proud expression on his face before standing up. "Dean, I need a word with you."

"I've said what I had to say."

"No, now." Orion and Dean stepped out of the bus. The team listened onto the conversation. "so that's it? You're dumping them, just like that?"

"Coach, I'm sorry. Your team isn't performing, and I've been under enormous pressure." Dean put his hands on his hips.

"From whom? The alumni group?  A bunch of aging pep clubbers?"

"Ted, I'm trying to do you a favour. With those kids gone, you'll get to pick your own team." Dean shrugged his shoulders and Cassidy frowned. "Let's face it, the Ducks are drowning."
