"Can you believe we are actually doing this, bimbo?" Mia squeals while clapping her hands, and her excitement just adds to how bittersweet I'm finding all this.

We're growing up. I knew that the moment I moved out, but this is one of those milestones that screams adulthood. My best friend is going to pick her wedding dress today, and as her maid of honor, I'm first in line, along with her mother, to give her advice. I'm thrilled, don't get me wrong. I love how excited she is to get married, and therefore I'm just as excited to support her every step of the way. But it is one of those things that will only happen once. At least, it should be.

We're getting to that stage now. We've arrived at the part of our lives in which we take huge ass decisions that are forever. And while Mia only seems to feel an overwhelming, all-consuming happiness right now, I can't help but feel a little sad.

She's getting married. After her wedding day, it's going to be Cooper and Mia instead of Mia and Jo. I'm completely okay with that, don't get me wrong. I happen to almost be Hero and Jo after all, but I feel like we're closing a huge chapter of our lives here, and that makes me sad.

But I know I need to suck it up. There will be enough time to exchange emotional memories and tears. Right now, we're going to do something fun, and since my best friend isn't even slightly pitiful, I'll swallow my pride and be happy too.

I'll cry in bed, later tonight. And after I'll let Hero fuck all the sadness out of me.

"I can," I answer Mia's question while I hook my arm in hers. "The evidence of that very fact is shining around your finger as we speak."

Mia smiles as she looks down at her ring finger where the ring that Cooper gave her rests. "It's as if I'm living in a dream." She sighs, her expression indeed dreamy.

"Alright, ladies," Mia's mom, Louise, tells us while she breaks us up so she can stand in between us. She also wraps her arms around both of us before she leads us into the bridal store.

The moment we open the door, a bell rings so the people in the store know we're here, and sure enough, not two seconds later, a lady walks towards us.

"Hello, and welcome to The Couture Gallery. How can I help you?" she asks, her expression friendly.

Mia takes a small step forward. "I have an appointment at one. Mia Challis."

"Oh, yes." The woman smiles. "I'll go get my colleague Sandy. You're scheduled with him today."

While she walks away to get her colleague, I look around the store. It looks fancy, and I just know the prices will be fancy too. Numerous gowns are displayed, one even more beautiful than the other. Some are the typical princess dresses, others are the mermaid kind. There are tight ones, revealing ones, and classic ones. Lace, tulle, silk, you name it and it's there.

The store itself looks modern; dark walls with white furniture and countless clothing racks with gowns rest against the walls. From the outside, it gives you the idea of a small, cozy store, but once inside, that idea is gone.

"Hello, hello, beauty." I'm pulled back to the present as a man walks straight to Mia. He's tall, has dark skin, and wears a suit that fits him perfectly. As he takes Mia's hands in his, his eyes go over her form. "You're going to be a lovely bride, I just know it. What's your name, dear? And who did you bring with you today?"

"I'm Mia," Mia answers with a smile and red cheeks. "And this is my mom, Louise, and my maid of honor, Josephine."

Sandy nods and gives both Louise and me a smile, but it's clear his main attention is on Mia. As it should be. Today is her day.
