TAP, TAP, TAP SOUNDED within the upstairs study of the Mikaelson Compound. Erin's booted heel bounced rhythmically against the hardwood floor as her anxious mind whirled. Her efforts to force her thoughts elsewhere were in vain. The longer she and Hayley went without word, the more her worry climbed.

Not that Erin should've worried, in the first place. After all, Elijah was immortal. He couldn't be killed by anything other than the White Oak stake, which was kept safe somewhere within the large home. But she couldn't help it. The city quickly devolved back into a warzone, and Marcel wanted nothing more than to make sure Elijah and Klaus's reign fell. There was no telling what he would do.

One move against them had become quite clear. While Jackson and Oliver, two of the Crescent wolves, ventured out to procure the kyanite stones for the moonlight rings, they were intercepted by Marcel. Since then, their whereabouts had been unknown. At least, until Klaus coaxed it out of a reluctant Davina. Erin didn't want to know how.

So as Elijah and Klaus set out to locate the missing wolves, Erin and Hayley were left to sit and wait for them to return.

"Elijah should've called by now," Hayley exclaimed, pacing within the confines of the study.

Erin silently agreed, holding her phone between her hands as if she could will it to ring. So far, she had been unsuccessful.

"Worrying isn't going to help," Genevieve voiced, gaining their attention as she strode into the room. "You should sit down, try to remain calm." Her stare was set on the antsy werewolf.

Hayley paused in her steps and turned to the witch, pressing her lips together as she quipped, "what are you, now? Magician slash zen life-coach?"

Erin resisted the urge to snort, watching Genevieve's expression fall flat. She didn't even know why Klaus insisted that the witch stick around and play babysitter. Yes, they needed her to create the moonlight rings, but that didn't mean Genevieve had to watch their every move while the brothers were gone. Erin was perfectly capable of calling an ambulance if Hayley went into labor.

Genevieve kept her stare on the werewolf and said, "the treatment of pregnant women has advanced remarkably since I was a nurse, but even I know high blood pressure is bad for you. Especially now, since you're so close to term."

Hayley sighed, but she took her advice and dropped onto the couch beside Erin. "I hate this. I feel completely useless," she muttered out.

Erin felt the same. And sadly, it hadn't been a new feeling. Ever since the existence of the supernatural came to light, she realized the world was much more dangerous than she knew. One wrong move, one wrong sentence, could possibly result in her death. Something Erin hadn't realized until she watched a close friend into an emotionless monster with just a simple thought.
