Blueberry's Alley

The quiet buzzing of streetlamps, the hushing wind of cars zooming past, and the constant sound of whispers filled the air outside a small alley.

The ground was cold and damp, only a dirty and ragged blanket keeping the harsh concrete away. Still...even the blanket was damp. Probably going to grow mold soon...

Between all of this, a young child sat there. Small, probably around 6 or 7, obviously been there for awhile. Pale, freckles dotting his face. Messy and curly brown hair that hasn't been brushed. A horribly stained and ruined Hoodie, didn't even have any strings for the hood. Front pocket had been ripped off as well...muddy jeans and boots that obviously have been ruined recently. There was also a small backpack the kid had, sitting right beside him...probably used as a pillow.

But, even with all of this, there was a small friend he had with him. A beautifully made, blue balloon dog. He had named it... 'Blueberry'.

No animal liked him...no human liked him...it was the only friend he had. He didn't have family...no parents, siblings. Nobody!... But, at least he had Blueberry.

His eyes drifted to the ground as he began to fall asleep, holding the balloon dog closely. It was so cold...he was so scared. What could happen to him...

These thoughts eventually stopped as the sound of footsteps rang out in the alley, making the kid open his eyes in a panic. As whatever it was grew closer, the kid moved back a small bit, shaking in fear. "W-WHO'S THERE?!" He yelled out.

"...a...a kid?" A decently surprised voice spoke, decently masculine and sounding pretty tired. "What- what are you doing in an alleyway?" The thing spoke again, moving closer to the kid.

The owner of the voice was a medium sized man, a whie labcoat down at his sides, brown and somewhat poofy hair...VERY pale. He seemed to have just gotten out of work, wouldn't be that suprising...it was nighttime after all.

"...Who are you?" The kid asked, seeming close to tears as he just stared at the man infront of him, holding onto Blueberry and his backpack like he would die if he didn't.

"....Xavier....Dr. Xavier- kid. What are you doing here?" 'Xavier' asked, walking over and crouching down a small bit to be eye-level with the kid. "Who are you, yourself?... God, you look like you've been here for awhile." He said, a small frown on his face.

"...I don't...I don't know...I know the start of my first and last name! I have the...uh...birth certificate in my backpack. I just...can't read it well. So, you can call me BDay!" The kid said, a small smile. "I uh...have been out here for awhile. My mom and pop died...nobody else in my family wanted me so I just had to grab what I had and leave." He chuckled nervously.

Xavier sighed as he went and put out his hand for 'BDay' to take it. "Alright, BDay....you wanna head with me? I was getting back to my wife and my own kid...I wouldn't want to just leave you out here...I can take you to the orphanage at the place I work tomorrow!" He said, giving a soft smile.

BDay nodded, putting on his backpack, holding Blueberry in one hand and using the other to take Xavier's hand. "That'd be awesome!" He said happily, a slight smile on his face.

"Thank you."
