The first half of the game was completely silent. Both of your minds were fully fixated on each other's pieces, and the positions they held on the board.
Giorno's hand hovered above his pieces, moving from one of his knights, to a pawn, then a rook. Your eyes followed his every move with a curious glint in them.
When the boy made his move with a bishop your concentration broke, a wide grin spreading across your face as you looked up at him and spoke.
"So. Where were you yesterday?"
He returned your gaze.
You moved your king while Giorno took his turn to answer your question.
"I was hiding from you because I'm tired of playing chess every day. Why do you like this game so much?"
He moved another piece on the board. You shrugged.
"My stand. But I also think that through this game there's much to be seen about the world."
"In what way?"
"Dunno. That's just what it feels like."
"You were starting to sound a bit wise but I should've known-"
"Checkmate."
The grin on your face spread even wider as the blonde sat there, frozen stiff. The air felt almost as thick as mud. You tried your hardest not to let out a cackle at the face of terror he was making. You could practically hear his heart pounding through the dead stillness of the room.
It felt like an eternity of his hysteria, and you trying to hold in your laugh until eventually time resumed.
"You just used your stand, didn't you?"
The blonde stood from his place on the floor. Your hands were clenched over your mouth as your face got redder and redder. The boy's eyes were wide in shock.
"What the hell did you do?"
You could barely hold it in anymore. You snapped. The most horrifying sound escaping your lips.
You hunched forward, your arms hugging your body as you laughed hysterically. Giorno did nothing but stand before you, watching you with his mouth agape as you laughed until no more sound could come from your throat. But even then you still laughed, silently as nothing but air came up.
After calming down you were finally able to answer him.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what got into me. There's no need to look so scared pretty boy,"
You paused, packing up the game before standing and continuing.
"I'll explain everything the next time we meet. And when I do I bet you'll laugh the same way I just did. Just make sure not to tell the others and ruin the surprise. I'll see ya later."
