I ran as far as my feet could carry me. I found an old bridge over a small creek to hide under. I sat there an cried. What else could I do? I now have no family, no home, and no friends. So I just cried.
I sat there for hours, just thinking about what I'd doing the monsters found me. 'What did I do' 'Am I really a princess?' 'Can I really trust this guy?' Those thoughts filled my head.
I sat there crying a while longer, until I felt something touch my shoulder. I ducked my head into my knees quickly. I screamed, "No! Please don't kill me! Please!" I moved my shoulder, trying to escape it's touch.
"Crystal! Crystal! Calm down, it's just me!"
I slowly turned my head to find it was Onax. "Onax! Thank God. I thought you were one of those monsters. They were chasing me. They tried to kill me! I was so scared. Please don't leave me." I looked up at his face. He looked angry. Very angry.
"Why did you leave?" Onax snapped at me. "You could've been killed! I could've lost you, Crystal!" He looked very mad. I understood. If He truly been watching me for so long, he must know that I'm awful at fighting. I couldn't kill a fly. I'm to kind hearted.
He looked down. His gray eyes started to tear up. "O...Onax?" I stuttered out. He stood up and in a sternly he said, "We need to leave. We're losing daylight." He started walking back toward the forest. I stood up and followed him. I didn't want to be alone again. Especially not in this town. Not while those monsters, no, those Demons were still out there looking for me.
The next few hours were quiet. Even when I tried to start a conversation, He wouldn't even look at me. I felt bad. It was my fault he worried so much. I was the one who ran away. It was wrong of me. On my defense, I didn't know everyone in town was eating or being eaten.
The silence was finally over. He was ready to start talking again. "How am I supposed to do my job, protecting you, if you run away?" But why'd he have to talk about that? And why did I decides to argue back?
"Wouldn't you run away if a stranger told you to follow them, blindly, into the woods?"
"Not of that stranger just saved my life!" we both took a step closer to each other.
"You shot my dad in the head!"
"That thing wasn't your dad anymore! It was a Demon."
I froze. I couldn't win this fight. He had won. I did my best to keep back my tears, but I let one escape. One tear falling to the ground. One silent tear leaving a trail down my cheek. Onax sighed and wiped the trail off with his thumb.
"Crystal, you have to believe that I'm here to help you. I'm not going to hurt you, but we do need to do something in case we get separated." He pulled out a small pocket knife and handed it to me. "For now, this will be your first line of defense."
"Is there a second line of defense? Not to question your choice, but I can't do much with this." I held up the knife. It was like the size of my pointer finger. I might be able to kill with rat with it. Might. I could never kill on of the Demons with it though.
"Well, if you can't get to the knife than you have to use your fists."
"Um," I raised my hand and said sarcastically, "I can't fight."
"That's next on our list. Training."
