Auriella-7
Alexander-8
"Good morning." Adriano greeted the kids. He and Azariah had spent the night at the hospital but they had slipped out to go to the mall down the street when Rosa got in this morning. Both kids had still been sleeping when they slipped out, in fact they had both done extremely well throughout the night, with only one instance when Ella was tossing and turning, presumably from a nightmare but they were able to soothe her back to having a peaceful night.
"Good morning, Addi." Ella greeted, a lot more at ease with the men. She was the more outgoing of the two. Xander just observed them like he had done since they arrived but to the surprise of both men he gave them a small smile, this was progress.
Both Ella and Xander had shown immeasurable progress since they had arrived the day before and they would be allowed to leave the hospital soon, which was great but also not a good thing.
No matter how hard the men looked they could not find any trace of the kids. They had managed to talk to them about getting their birth names with the promise of never calling them that and continuing to use their new names.
But it didn't help.
There was no sign of an Everleigh or a Nathaniel anywhere in missing person profiles with their description or age dating back to their birth. Right now they assumed that the NITE organisation was holding them hostage and forced their mothers into the pregnancy, or maybe they had given their bodies willingly. Then had kept the pregnancy a secret from the government, never filling their paperwork.
That was the first theory, but there were so many others.
The men had worked throughout most of the night, listening to the steady breathing of the two children they had grown so fond of just to make sure they had slept through the night. They had worked tirelessly to both try and find where the kids were taken from but at the same time trying to find someone more permanent for them to live.
"How are you feeling?" Azariah asked the kids softly, placing the shopping bags down on the floor.
"Good." Alexander answers, now the men were right by the bed. They saw the kids holding a book on their lap, and by the size of the lettering and length of the book they doubted it was suitable for an eight and nine year old. "What book are you reading?"
"Animal farm." Alexander answered.
"I don't think that's age appropriate for a, wait how old are you guys?"
"I'm seven, and Lex is eight." Ella answered, happy she actually knew this question. They also knew their birthdays, but that's only because it meant they were tortured more on those days. "And we've read it before."
"When did you read it?" Azariah asked gently as to not cause the kids to close up. Any small bits of information were useful and they wanted to know everything about the kids.
