"Your mother is going to kill me, Annie," I muttered looking down at my daughter and the two small things walking next to her. Anneliese looks up at me, pretty much gleaming with happiness and I knew she would have gotten those dogs from me anyway, there isn't much I can deny my child.

What I'm counting on is her having the same effect on Auriella, sure Anneliese had us both wrapped around her finger but on a rare occasion, Auriella can deny Liese something. I'm just hoping that day isn't today.

I hold open the office door to Auriella's office and allow Anneliese to walk in first along with the two mutts that were following her.

"Bonjour Maman." Anneliese greets and Auriella looks up from the work on her desk and pauses at the animals that are both sitting protectively at Annie's side.

"Hi, baby." Auriella greets before asking the question that's hanging in the air. "Darling, whose dogs did you steal? And why did you condone this?"

The former question was directed to our daughter and the latter to me.

"I didn't steal them," Anneliese explains quickly. They were abandoned and I couldn't leave them there, they were going to starve."

Anneliese never really cared for the multiple animals we had living on our property except for her horse. She had never really bonded with anything else so to see her and those two puppies fall in love with each other that easily was a shock.

Auriella and I had put her foot down on more animals since our sons had brought over multiple of them when they found strays but it was clear Annie had formed a bond with the two Dobermans from the minutes they spent together. They had even snapped at me the first time I got closer to Liese until they saw she was comfortable with me.

Auriella looked away from Liese's hypnotising eyes that made anyone agree to anything she wanted and to me, an accusing look in her eyes and all I could reply with was a shrug.

"Annie, go and ask your aunt to help you get something for the dogs to eat while I talk to your father." Anneliese follows her mother's instructions, going to the office next door to Harper. Auriella waits until we can't see Liese out the glass office door before narrowing her gaze onto me. "I thought we agreed on no more pets."

"We agreed no more family pets, those are just for Liese," I answer but her gaze narrows even more. I walk forward trapping my wife between my body and her desk. "You know I can't say no to her, and this is the first time I've seen that spark in her eyes in a while. Another bonus is they look intelligent and already are protective of her, we can train them just in case."

Auriella gives up, she had in the beginning but wanted to scold me for not consulting her first. Anneliese needed something, sure she had us, her brothers and Regan but she needed another thing to ground her. And the responsibility would be good.
