The majority of the day passes by in a blur, and I finally have the time to catch my breath as I see Slater's Corvette parked outside of the academy. I walk to his car, pull the door open and get in.
The car starts and I close my eyes as the drive begins.
"When do you want to leave for dinner?" I ask, turning my head to Slater.
"Whenever you want." He says, his hand lazily steering.
I place a hand over my mouth as I yawn, resting my head on my fist.
"We can go later." Slater says, glancing at me.
"No, I'd rather get it done now." I say.
"Alright." he says.
I rest my eyes for the rest of the drive, but I don't sleep. I could feel every glance Slater sent my way.
When we pull into his driveway I open my eyes, grab my things, and get out.
My god, I'm so tired.
I stretch my back as we walk to the door. Walking in, I drop everything onto the floor and make my way up to my room.
I then start the grueling process of getting ready. Showering, straightening my hair, doing light makeup, finding the right outfit. Everything had to be perfect. I knew if it wasn't, my mother would be the first to find out.
I decided on a plain black dress, skintight and short. My father was going to be so mad. I walked back into my bathroom, leaning over the counter as I applied my clear lip gloss. Rubbing my lips together I walk out, grabbing my black Chanel purse and throwing my gloss and phone in it.
"Slater, let's go!" I yell, walking down the stairs.
He walks out of the kitchen as I lean down, sliding on my heels. I push my hair behind my ear as it falls in my face, and I immediately feel his eyes on me. The heat from it travels to my face and when my hair falls again, I dont move it.
When my heels are on, I stand up, glancing at him.
"What?" I say, crossing my arms when his stare doesnt leave my face.
"Nothing." he shrugs.
I follow him out of the door, locking it behind me. As we make our way to the car, he walks behind me, and I already knew why.
I don't mean to be cocky, but my ass was great.
I give him a knowing glance and his eyes shoot up, suddenly focused on his car.
"Stupid." I mutter.
We get in and begin driving.
"You know the only reason my father invited you is because he wants something." I say, looking at him.
"I know," he says, one hand on the wheel and the other on the center console.
"So why waste your time going?" I ask.
"If it matters to you, it interests me. If it didn't matter you wouldn't have let it happen." he says.
I lick my lips as I turn away.
I was, in just the slightest bit, intrigued by my fathers invitation. But I wasn't going to tell Slater he was right. And the smallest part of me was hoping my mom was doing better. It was naive of me, but it was still there.
But fuck me, I still hated that Slater was right.
The rest of the drive was silent, and my pulse sped up when I saw the gates of the house. I see a guard come out of the guard tower, and I scrunch my eyes to see him.
