________Arriving back felt strange.
All the familiar streets from Daniella's childhood and teens. Not much has changed other than the worn-out atmosphere of San Diego, Tho when Daniella pulled up to the 'Hard Deck bar' her heart burst into a warm scene of nostalgia.
As much as she was eager she couldn't help but feel nervous and
shakey breaths left her lips.Whilst away travelling she hadn't failed to keep in contact with her mother and younger sister. Emails, phone calls and even video calls had happened near enough every other night but actually being in the warm embrace of her mum and sister was something she had craved.
After composing herself she swung open the doors of the bar and walked in slowly, her luggage in hand, a bright smile painted across her face.
"Mom? Amelia?" Daniella scanned the empty room, calling out softly for her mother and sister.
"Dani?" Two timed voices spoke up from the other room before bursting through the side doors into the main bar.
"Oh, Dani." Her mum, Penny, ran to her softly pulling her into a long-needed hug, her sister joining not long after. Daniella dropped her bags and pulled her family in close, her eyes filling with water as tears of joy were realised from her mum.
The hug lasted for the perfect amount of time needed before her mum was first to let go and step away, admiring her daughter proudly.
Penny took Daniella's face in her hands gently scanning her.
"Look how grown up and beautiful you've become." She smiled through watery eyes.
Daniella pulled away with a smile.
"Me? Look at Amelia" she turns to her sister, smiling cheerfully.
"Not a little kid anymore, huh." Amelia laughed.
The girls spent the quiet afternoon catching up, Daniella told her mum and sister all about the trip and the experiences she was able to encounter, in more detail than she had done over the phone. Amelia caught her sister up on school and how good San Diego was now she was older and could enjoy it more. Her mother told her about life working at the bar and how popular it had become with Top Gun and other military personnel, she was happy, Daniella could tell, Much more happy compared to before Daniella's father had left
After hours of conversation, the outside sky began to dim and yawns emerged from Amelia.
"I'm going to start heading home." She Announced through tired eyes. Penny dug for the keys to the house out of her back pocket and handed them to the younger sister.
"I'll see you tomorrow Dani." Amelia said and smiled at her older sister, pulling her into one final hug before waving to her mum and leaving the bar.
"Well, I better start getting ready." Her mother patted her knees before standing up and walking behind the bar.
"For what?" Daniella pulled her brows tightly.
"Bar opens in 10 minutes." Penny averted her eyes down at her watch and scanned the time.
"You need a hand tonight?" Her daughter offered happily. "Absolutely not, you've had a long flight home you need your sleep." Her mum protested tho she appreciated the offer.
"I slept on the plane, Plus, I want to help." Daniella insisted. Her mum tilted her head and nodded in despite.
"Fine. but if you even feel slightly tired, promise me, you'll go to be-" her mother agreed but Daniella cut her off "I promise, mom." She swore as she kissed her mother on the cheek before grabbing a rag from the side to start her job.
