24 | Chapter Twenty-Four

May, 2015 | Harlem, New York

It had been two days since we left the hotel.

Two days since we found Isis.

Two days and I was still stuck with Reid. It didn't occur to me that saving him for the little dungeon would mean that he was stuck with us. And it was true: he was. For the most part, he stayed in his lane. He woke up every morning and went from his position on the couch to the kitchen where he'd make something to eat before I woke up. I didn't cook for him, nor would I have wanted to if I was given the opportunity. That consisted of lunch and dinner too. If someone was cooking something, it was Isis. She could sense that there was tension and she did everything in her power to stop it from happening, but no matter what: it happened.

I couldn't really say things were back to normal.

Isis and I never really got a chance to talk. It was kind of hard to talk with her ex boyfriend in the same apartment as us. It seemed as if she was somewhat avoiding our conversation. She knew she was running away from the truth of the situation and that was what made it annoying. She knew I was literally one call away and she still wasn't calling.

It took a lot of me not to get frustrated.

It was hard as hell with Quentin, Rakim, and Cassidy popping up every minute to check on us. Their presence irked me. It was too many people in my apartment and in times I just wanted to get away.

I thought finding Isis was the hard part.

The hard part was getting use to having her back again. The hard part was knowing she wasn't there against her will, but she was there because she was looking for Reid. The same Reid that broke up our relationship and got us in this place in the first place.

It was two o'clock.

I was suppose to attend my interview today, but my clock managed to die in the middle of the night and I had no other way to wake myself. I managed to send a quick email to the interviewer hoping that we could take a rain check and reschedule.

There was a sudden knock on my door.

"Come in."

Behind the door was both Isis and Reid. Reid glanced at me before stepping in and taking a seat on one small chair near a desk. Isis didn't bother looking at me. She sat on the edge of the bed. Her eyes darted around my room. Things hadn't really changed much. It still looked the same. The only difference was I had cleaned out a lot of things. The stuff I cleaned was still stuck in boxes that were pushed against the wall.

Reid cleared his throat.

"I-We never really got to say thank you, for y'know, helping us out of there..." His voice trailed on as if he didn't really know what to say or how to say it. I quirked an eyebrow at him. He was thanking me like he didn't talk trash about how I didn't do anything. But I let him thank me. I had to admit, I was impressed. Reid looked like an egotistical man who didn't apologize about anything. I was ready to take whatever we got.

"And I know you-Isis- shot Raven," Reid paused letting that sink in. It was almost like he was taunting me: he said it in a 'In case you thought you did something' tone and I didn't really like it, "-but we still have to deal with Nyson, the head of it all. It isn't as simple as shooting him. We actually have to kill him." Reid stated.

I shrugged. "Okay, let's go back down there and kill him." It seemed like the obvious choice.

This time, Isis stepped in.
