26 | Chapter Twenty-Six

June, 2015 | Harlem, New York.

The walk up the stairs from the basement seemed a lot longer than the walk coming down. Nyson was close on my tail, so close that if I even wanted to run away, all it would take would be a simple foot to stop me. The stairs creaked a lot louder and everything seemed to be going in slow motion.

"You better not be playing with me, Joey. With a click of one button your sister will be dead." Nyson's taunting words was the only thing that kept me from turning around. I was praying to God that somehow Isis and Reid would be out of here and safe, so at least I could use that as an excuse. But then part of me knew that Isis had no idea what was going on inside of this house, and seriously, I actually believed half of what Tyson stated.

She was probably in my car right now lip locking with Reid.

But she wasn't.

We turned the corner and the car was empty as if I was the only person who drove here. Where were Reid and Isis? Were they inside the house? That couldn't be right. Before we left the basement, Nyson made sure to take me around the house to make sure Isis and Reid were in here. So where were they?

It seemed like Nyson was wondering the same thing, for he shoved me.

I didn't know if this was payback for what I did to him in the basement, or if he was really that angry. "Where the fuck are they?" Nyson questioned. He looked angry enough to kill me, and the only the only reason I was staying so calm was the simple fact that we were out in the open.

Nyson wouldn't shoot me right here and right now, right?

I mean, we had all these other houses around us and...

I honestly don't think Nyson gave a fuck what these other houses saw.

"I'm not sure. I left them in the car and they just..."

My trail of thought was cut off by the sound of my phone ringing. I tried to ignore it and continue on with the conversation (which was rather one-sided) but Nyson shook his head. "Pick up the phone." He ordered. I knew better than to argue with him, especially not with my sister on the line. So indeed, I pulled out the phone. It was Isis. I didn't even have to look at the phone to know it was her. She had a specific ringtone that I had set just for her. Nyson knew it Isis, too. And it wasn't because of the name either. Her name in my phone was just a heart and a smiley face.

He couldn't have known it was her from that.

He knew it was her from the picture that appeared on the screen with her name. It was an old ass picture, but we never had the oppurtunity to redo it. It was both of us at a club. I had a performance there for my rap thing that I had going on and I could vaguely remember thinking it was funny to bring Isis's drunk ass at the time onto the stage.

Long story short, it was the last time we were invited to that club.

"Are you just gonna smile at the damn picture or answer?" Nyson spat.

I stopped myself from daydreaming and answered the call.

"Put it on speaker." Nyson whispered.

"Isis, where you at?" I questioned. Nyson didn't even have to tell me to not mention that he was here. All he had to do was wave his phone in the air signifying me it was that easy for me to lose Cassidy. Isis sighed. "I got tired of waiting. We wanted to stop at this place so Reid and I caught a bus to this store. It's pretty empty. I'll send you the addy. How is Cassidy?" Isis questioned.
