It was a long drive across the country and to be completely honest, I can't tell you much about it. I have really bad car sickness and can't stand to be behind the wheel so don't ask me about it, ask Samuel who didn't sleep a wink the whole twenty three hour drive. I don't even know how he did it without stopping to rest, even for a little bit.

All I know is that when my eyes opened, all I could see were bright colors and palm trees. No more oak and pine trees with gloomy clouds in the sky. I looked over at Samuel to see him drinking a red bull. He looks over at me and smiles.

"Look who is finally awake, sleepy head."

I smile at him. "Good morning."

"Morning?" He laughs. "It is two in the afternoon, but not in North Carolina. In California, baby."

"How are you so energetic?" I ask him.

"While you were playing Sleeping Beauty, I played how many red bulls can I drink before my heart explodes? The answer is six and counting."

"Babe!" I yell at him. "Stop drinking those."

"I promised my baby to be here as soon as possible and I kept my promise. So thank me, don't yell at me." He teases me.

"Well I appreciate you driving all this way and I am impressed you did it in the time that you did."

"Anything for you, baby girl."

After another hour, we arrived at the apartment complex. The moving truck is already here as we pull into a parking spot. Samuel looks at me and smiles before he gets out of the truck. He opens the door for me and helps me out of the truck.

"My lady, would you like to unlock the door to our apartment?" Samuel says as he dangles the apartment key in front of my face.

"I absolutely would." I answer as I grab the keys from him.

Samuel has been to this apartment before, right when he went to put the deposit, first and last month rent back in May. I can't believe we are walking to the door for the very first time. The outside of the complex is light yellow and brown and flora is like nothing I have ever seen before. It's colorful and bright. We walk up to the second floor of the apartment and walk down the hallway to room two-fourteen.

I look up to Samuel and smile as I unlock the front door to our new apartment. I slowly walk in and turn on the closest light switch to reveal a small living room with white furniture. I turn around to Samuel to see him smiling.

"Do you like it so far?" He asks.

"You didn't tell me you already furnished it."

"Remember how I told you I had a surprise gift for your graduation?" He asks.

"Yeah, but I thought that was the roses on my bed."

He smiles more. "Nope. This is the surprise I had for you." I turn around and admire the furniture. "You always said you wanted clean modern furniture for our apartment and I did that when I was here in May."

"You decorated it for me?" I can feel the tears building up in my eyes.

"I would do anything for you."

I walk over to him and wrap my arms around him. "I love you."

"I love you so much, baby girl." Samuel says as he wraps his arms around me. "C'mon, let me show you the rest of the apartment.

Samuel spins me around and with my hand in his head leads me through the rest of the apartment. The living room had a dark wooden coffee table in the middle of the room with a white couch and a big flat screen television. There was a matching end table on the side of the couch with the photo of Samuel and I when we went to his senior prom. The walls were as white as the couch and the floor had a dark wooden floor, but not as dark as the coffee table or the end table.
