Getting caught

5 years later
Today was a special day. A day both Alice and James loved. Today was the 14th of November their birthday. Most birthdays Alice's parents would go out for the day and Alice would run to the woods hang out with James for 2 hours come back home with an hour to spear and at 6 o'clock she'd be all dressed up ready for dinner with her parents. But unknown to Alice her parents had different plans.

The morning started just the same as every other her maid Hazel would come in with breakfast in bed. Since it was her birthday she had pancakes and syrup. She would eat it and the throw on shorts and t-shirt put on some perfume and then head to the balcony. The first time she did it she found it hard but by now she had done it at least a thousand times and could do it blind folded.

As always she swung her legs of the balcony and just as she was about to jump to the roof her parents came busting through the doors.
"SUPRISE HAP-" they both shouted in union before stopping seeing where she was
"Where are you going?" Her mum asked looking horrified "and why are you dressed like a peasant?"
"M-mum dad I-I can explain this isn't what it looks like." Alice stuttered something she always did when she lied
"Sit down now and tell us everything." Her dad said finally snapping out of his trance
At first she tried to lie which failed spectacularly due to the stuttering so eventually she ended up telling them everything and to say her parents were angry would be an understatement they were furious. They forbade her from ever leaving the castle ground and but her in room arrest for a month. They even canceled birthday dinner

Meanwhile in the woods James sat holding a bundle of flowers he picked. He was finally ready to ask her out. But 10 o'clock came and went and there was still no sign of Alice. Soon the sun set and the moon came out and James gave up hope heading home.

4 months later
Alice had been let out her room but not the castle. She was told she wouldn't be allowed to leave until she's old enough to marry . They had a prince prepared to marry her at 19 so she had 3 years left to wait. For the first 2 months James came to their  spot every night waiting for Alice but soon gave up hope and tried to move on.
