3 years later
Tonight was the night she was going to meet the prince. Her family would have dinner he would propose and Alice would have to say yes.
Alice obviously didn't want to say yes but she had to. In the past three years she had gotten used to doing what her parents say. She wore those horrible dresses and did her makeup. She wore high heels she had learned how to act like a princess and even though she still hated it she had no choice.
That evening Alice was getting ready she had her makeup and dress on and her maid Hazel was doing her hair when out of nowhere Hazel started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Alice asked
"I'm sorry it's just I can imagine how you would react if you saw yourself three years ago." She replied
"What's that supposed to mean." Alice new she alway hated being a princess but she can't have been that much of a pain to look after could she
"Well you used to hate this kind of stuff I remember you once promised me the second you turned 19 you would runaway with James and never look back." Hazel said
Alice didn't reply she was to busy thinking. She never got to tell James. Never told him why she left. Why she just stoped showing up.
By 6pm it was almost time for dinner. But Alice couldn't go through with it. She couldn't say yes to the prince still thinking of James. And that when she made the decision. She stood on the balcony she used to jump from every night. Her parents had banned her from this room and moved her to a new one on the fifth floor so she could never get out. so it was difficult getting here.
She swung her legs over the edge just as she remembered. She hopped down and landed on the soft grass. Alice hadn't been into the woods in years but she still remembered this forest like the back of her hand. Going through the woods like she used to do every night. Until she made it to a familiar clearing with a cottage in the middle.
Without hesitation Alice ran up to the hut and knocked on the door. She heard some shuffling and then the door opened to a tall handsome man.
"James?" Alice asked looking into the eyes of the boy she used to love
"A-Alice?!" James stuttered stunned to see his old friend "where on earth did you go?!" He said suddenly angry.
"James please let me explain I have a reason." Alice begged
James sighed and stepped aside letting Alice in
"Thank you." Alice said before stepping in
"So?" James said sitting down on the sofa and signaling Alice to do the same.
Alice took about thirty minutes to explain everything and by then she was almost in tears. James looked at her
"You know when I first found out you were a princess part of me always knew something like that would happen but why now why have you come back after three years." James asked
"Because my parents have found someone for me to marry he was supposed to propose today but I couldn't go through with it when I'm in love with you." Alice admits
"Wait what your in love with me?" James said
"Yes of course I am you smart and talented and funny and good looking I've been in love with you since we were 14." Alice suddenly felt more tears in her eyes and she couldn't keep them in any longer and tears were rolling down her cheeks James looked at her wiping away her tears before kissing her. It was short on soft but Alice knew it had happened.
"Let's runaway together." Alice whispered
"What?" James said pulling away
"Let's get out of this stupid kingdom find somewhere safe for us." Alice said this time more confidently
"Yeah." James said
"Yeah?" Alice looked up hopefully
"Definitely." James said before kissing her again.
