By the time the princess had naturally awoken, the sun was high in the sky. Heat travelled through the glass panes that made up the window. After the princess gained her wits, she stood and looked out the window. The village was not visible over the walls of the castle. The sun was on its way down after its laborious trip to the top of its arc, and the fluffy clouds travelled across the sky, not daring to cross the suns path.
She stretched her arms, arching her back to stretch as deeply as she could. It was the type of stretch that tugs at all of the aching muscles and pulls all of the stiffness out of your joints. She looked towards the door, unsure of what to do if she left. Should she leave her room and get lost in the castle, she didn't know if she would find her way back. Worst case scenario, she would end up in a place she was not supposed to be.
At the same time, she pondered if she should stay in her room and risk seeming like a lazy guest. Her case wasn't helped by the fact that she'd slept in so late. She couldn't even begin to imagine the hell that would've been raised had her father known about this.
To add to her dilemma, she was in her night clothes. She was never able to properly dress herself. She always needed the help of the maids to aid in the tightening of the corset and all the other finer details. She wasn't sure how this castle worked and if she would simply be able to call for a maid.
Biting her lip, she decided she would take an approach of independence. She made her way to the wardrobe, selecting one of the multiple gowns. She plucked her corset from where it had been set last night and she stripped herself of her nightclothes, beginning with a fresh chemise. She then sat on a chair next to the vanity in the room and she pulled on a pair of silk stockings, fumbling with garter ribbon to tie them in a knot below the knee. She remembered her maids tying them into bows but she was never able to figure out how they did it. Next, she attempted to put on her corset. She tried her best to lace the corset, unintentionally leaving it loose after much struggle and tied in a knot at the top. She tied her hip pads around her waist, then moved for her petticoats. The princess knew that something was definitely wrong with her attire, but she could not figure out what was wrong. She simply attributed it to it being the first time she'd dressed herself. As she struggled to bring her petticoats over her head, she stumbled into the vanity, knocking various beauty products off of the table. The princess lifted the petticoat over her head and threw it to the floor in frustration. How was it that her maids were able to do this and she wasn't?
"My lady, are you alright?"
Her blood froze in her veins as she heard the prince calling to her from just outside the door. She quickly picked up the petticoat, holding it against her chest in fear of being seen in such a disorderly and improper state.
"My lady, may I enter?" Prince Soobin called from behind the door. The princess saw the knob move and her voice was no longer frozen in her throat.
"No!" She yelled. She immediately saw the doorknob return to its original position. "Could you please send Ms Bahiyyih in?" She called sheepishly.
"As you wish," Soobin responded.
The princess heard his footsteps retreat, and almost as if she had been waiting for the princesses call, the quiet maid walked in and immediately she gasped at the mess caused by the princess.
"My lady, you could have called me!" She gasped, rushing to the aid of the flushed princess. "I am here to help you, your highness." Her nimble fingers made quick work of the weak knots tied by the princess.
"My apologies," the princess whispered, feeling the urge to cry out of pure embarrassment.
"You needn't apologize my lady!" Shocked at the nature of a Royal apologizing to a servant. "Just know that I'm always around to be of service to you. Simply call for me when you need me."
