Journal title: Cleaning and Assessing

March 31

Remember how everyone wanted to run off and do things after the battle was won? Yea, non of that fucking happened. Not a damn thing because things started to hurt after the rush wore off, and reality crept in. Yes, we did what we had to. In the long run, it will be tremendous for the Commonwealth, but... it still should bother people because I know for a fact some of the gunners we killed were just following orders like my men. Hell, I heard one or two begging for their lives, and they were still put down. As much as the "after the fact" bothers me, I know what's done had to be, that they were not going to stop. Shit, Aiden pointed out that, as the brotherhood, this was only one section of the Gunners. The rest will probably come in mass to avenge those we put down... but we will deal with that when it comes, right now... right now, we're just relaxing.

Or being "bums," as mom would say. Why? Because the only thing to happen over the last three days was beds were made and the bodies dragged outside and burned. Most of us walked away lucky, but it will be some time before many are fit to fight again. Preston and poor dogmeat are two of those people.

Dogmeat had his right ear ripped off by one of the gunner's attack dogs, and the skin on his tail, about 3 inches, was degloved when a gunner grabbed him by the tail and threw him into a wall. We managed to get the skin stitched back on, but it will heal nicely; nothing could be done for his ear, though; he's just special now. Then Preston, oh boy, Piper is just beside herself worrying. He had his pinky and ring finger on his left hand blown off by a shotgun, no real worry because he's right-handed. By the time we found the fingers, it was too late to reattach them, so piper is having a friend come over that is a robotics expert that can make a great pair of prosthetics for Preston.

Oh, and my leg was not broken; it was just fractured, so that's good... Sitting here for the last three days, I think the plaza would make an excellent settlement HQ. There are so many settlements in the wealth, and we can only help so many because of our location. If we used this place, well, it's smack dab in the middle of the wealth the radio could reach all corners, and no settlement, controlled or not, would no longer be out of reach.... Need to talk to Jake about that. See what he thinks; he has been my right-hand man for all things settlements, so it's only fair.
