"Are you getting out of bed today?" Layla asks as she came into my room and stood at my door for a good five minutes as I was laying there.
I wasn't asleep cause I haven't slept at all last night. I was laying there, staring at the ceiling and thinking about too much shit.
That's what I've been doing all night.
Looking over at her, she was staring at me with her arms crossed. I shrugged before looking back up at the ceiling and watching the fan spin around.
"Jalen, what's wrong?" I saw Layla walk in further before sitting on the bed. She was looking at me with concern and I knew that I would have to tell her.
Yesterday was when I ran into Ethan but I didn't tell Layla that when I came home. I tried avoiding the conversation all night and went to bed with so much shit on my mind.
But I haven't gotten out of bed today and it was already one in the afternoon. I knew Layla would be coming in, asking me what was wrong and why I haven't moved from the bed.
I sighed before looking over at her, staring at her for a moment. "I saw Ethan yesterday." I watch as her eyebrows rose and she looked back before leaning back a little.
"What happened?"
"He said.." I look back at the ceiling to avoid eye contact. "that she wasn't the same anymore and it seems as though she didn't really like the man she was marrying."
Layla gave me a confused look. "How come?"
"You don't talk to her anymore?" I ask.
"We don't talk everyday. I checked in on her maybe a few weeks ago."
"Anything weird?"
She shook her head. "No. She seemed fine."
"Did you talk on the phone?"
"We talked on the phone a few times before but she didn't sound different or anything."
I knew Layla still kept in contact with Elle but it was weird cause she would call her and I wasn't ever around.
The thought itself was nerve-wrecking.
"Is that why you're not getting out of bed? You're worried about her?"
"No. I just can't stop thinking about her and it's driving me crazy."
Layla gave me a sad look before patting my leg. "I'm sorry, Jalen." She said before standing up. "When you get hungry, come eat."
After she left, I stayed there and sighed as I thought about Elle. I placed my hands over my face and groaned before looking up at the ceiling and watching the fan.
Memories started flooding back to me and I hated it.
She was everywhere in my mind.
I could see her smile.
Her face.
Her hair.
Her arms.
Her hands.
Her body.
Then I started remembering the day we met...

Four Years Ago:
"I can't believe Freshman year is already over. We're going to be Sophomores next year!" Ivan was jumping around and being all happy, which made me smile.
We were walking outside as it was the last class of the day, which we decided to skip. I didn't care that much cause school was almost over and next week was the last week.
