"Five more days." Layla said towards Kane, but made sure I was listening as I was sitting on the other couch in the living room.

I glanced over at them as Kane was looking at me before saying something to Layla. I saw her shrug before looking over at me and smiling as she grabbed her drink from the table.

The last few weeks were terrible.

Besides the constant memories and thoughts about Elle, I had to deal with Layla talking on the phone with her at times that I was here and she would keep reminding Kane about the party.

"If all girls are going then why am I?" Kane asks. "Shouldn't I be going to her fiance's party?"

"She gave you an option of coming to hers. If you want to go to his then that's fine." I saw Kane think about it before shrugging, not knowing which one he would choose.

It didn't take me long before I decided to go grab a snack and head to my room. I wasn't about to stay in this living room while they talked about this stupid party right in front of me.

Layla calls my name but I ignored her as I walked to the kitchen, grabbed some snacks and drinks before walking up to my room before seeing her right behind me.

"I don't want company." I said as I shut the door with my foot, but she quickly pushed it open and walked inside.

"I'm sorry, Jalen."

"Are you?" I said as I turned around after I tossed the snacks on my bed. "Cause it seems like you don't care about bringing my ex up every chance you get?"

She kept looking at me before crossing her arms and looking away. "I'm sorry." She said, which didn't really seem like she was.

After a moment of silence, I slowly sat on my bed and looked at her. "Layla?" I saw her turn her attention towards me. "Do you know something I don't?"

That made her stare at me and shift on her feet.

"No." She said, avoiding eye contact as she looks away. I could tell there was something she was hiding.

"Layla."

Her eyes were avoiding me as I kept staring at her, wanting her to tell me but not having any luck with it cause she refused to look at me.

"Get out of my room." I said before moving up on the bed against the headboard.

Layla looks at me before shutting the door and slowly walking towards the bed. I saw her sit down, looking at her hands before sighing. "I've been keeping something from you for a few weeks now. Ever since I got that invitation."

When she looks at me, I could tell she was about to tell me something that could easily break my heart. I crossed my legs and waited for her to continue.

"You were invited to the party.. by her."

"What..." I said as I could hear a ringing in my ear and my throat was going dry. "She.. invited me?"

Layla nods as she looks at me. "She invited you but told me to make it seem like I invited you instead. She didn't want you knowing that she invited you personally."

"Why would she invite me?" I ask, very confused and a little angry. "Why would she think I would want anything to do with that when it had something to do with her getting married?"

Now I was pissed off.

"Jalen, I didn't even want to ask you but I thought it would mean something good if you went."

"Why would I go?" I said as I stood up and paced around my room. "She invited me to her bacherlorette party cause she's about to get married and wants to rub it in my face?"
