~13~
Everywhere was cold, Jungkook noticed as he came to. Everything but his right hand. He wasn't as cold as he had been, but it was that heat that he felt in his heart. He could smell something familiar. It reminded him of walking into a kitchen where someone had just finished baking bread. The scent made him feel calm and comforted, and he yearned to delve deeper into it. He struggled to move, feeling as if he were frozen, but he finally opened his eyes. The sky above him was pitch black through the trees, the light from the moon barely reaching them. Turning his head to find the source of the warmth and smell, he stilled.
"Jimin?" He croaked. Jimin smiled warmly at him, looking nothing like the screaming Omega from before. He looked down to see that the warmth that he felt was Jimin's hand in his. He watched as his other small hand made its way up to Jungkook's cheek, wiping away a stray tear.
"Jimin, I'm sorry for-"
Jimin shushed him with his finger. "I forgive you, my Alpha. I know it wasn't really you. I promise, okay?"
Jungkook wasn't really sure what to say. He hadn't expected Jimin to just forgive that easily. He sure as hell wasn't ready to forgive himself yet. Yet in all the time that he had known Jimin, he knew with his whole heart that he'd meant every word that he'd said.
Jimin filled him in that after he'd run away, they had to sedate Jimin, and that when he woke and he wasn't back, Jimin had gone searching for him. Yoongi also chimed in to say that what Jimin had suffered with the screaming fit was often common in people with PTSD, where they would be awake but not fully and would believe they were back in whatever hell they'd been in. They were walking back to the compound, Jungkook buried under a mound of blankets that he was grateful for, considering that he wasn't wearing much. Jimin stuck close to his side, their fingers interlaced tightly together.
Yoongi had insisted that Jungkook take a warm bath to finalize him returning to normal body temperature, and that Jimin needed to keep an eye on him for any signs of fever or sickness. In the end, though, they'd been thrown out of the infirmary and sent back to Jungkook's room. Jimin let him bathe in private while he stayed out in the bedroom. As he washed himself, he felt stupid for what he had done. What if they hadn't found him in time?
Shaking his head, he ducked under the water to rinse his hair. It was past, he was okay, and now he had Jimin back. He hurried up to finish before throwing on the clothes he'd grabbed and finally exiting the room.
He smiled as he looked at how cute Jimin was as he laid in Jungkook's bed. He was awake, eyes watching the Alpha's every move, up until he was slipping in beside him.
"Hi," he said as he turned on his side to face Jimin, mirroring the Omega.
"Hey," he giggled. It made Jungkook's heart swell at seeing Jimin smile.
"Jungkookie, I..." he trailed off, making Jungkook frown.
"Hey, it's okay, Jimin. You can talk to me. I'll listen. I promise."
Jimin nodded before continuing. "I realized this while I was holding your hand that there were words to how I feel about you. I know that we didn't spend a whole lot of time together before this, but I think I've always known since that day I'd met you. You're incredibly special to me, Jungkook. Even though you were being controlled by whatever they'd done to you, I had hope that you would come back to me as my Jungkook."
Jimin tucked a strand of his longer hair behind his ear as he smiled fondly at the Alpha.
"I never thought I would get the chance to say this to you," he whispered. "I love you, Junkook. I love you with every fiber of my heart."
Jungkook stared at Jimin, his eyes wide. He didn't know what to say, to do. He felt as if he hadn't truly earned the Omega's love, but he knew in his heart that Jimin was his Omega, that there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for him. It was just strange hearing Jimin finally say those words to him.
Unfortunately he'd been quiet too long as worry passed over his features. "I-I'm sorr-"
"I love you, Jimin."
"You do?"
Jungkook laughed softly. "I do. And I'm going to prove that I love you every single day of the rest of my life. I'm never letting you go again."
He pulled his Omega into his arms, tucking Jimin's head under his chin as he stroked his back. At some point they'd both drifted to sleep, their contented scents filling the room.
Taehyung walked through the door of the Compound, greeted by the sight of the other Resistance members all congratulating him on returning safely. He didn't see either Jimin or Jungkook and could only hope that they were okay. He headed towards the briefing room where he knew the Council would be waiting to hear what information he had received.
He told them about how the attack on Jimin was related, how Jimin's father was a high-up commander for the Government's military. He'd managed to get information on how they were experimenting on people, anyone they could get their hands on, but mostly on Omegas. He had also learned a very important piece of information. Jimin's father was heading south to the ocean to personally pick up a delivery of weapons that had been said to be something that the Resistance would never see coming. He couldn't tell them any more details about it, but Taehyung was just glad that he'd gotten that much.
After being dismissed, the Omega headed down to the cafeteria to eat real food for the first time in a while. Upon arriving, though, he saw his group of friends, Hobi and Yoongi, laughing with Jimin and Jungkook. His eyes widened and he broke out into a sprint, nearly plowing into Jimin as he scooped up the other Omega and held on to him tightly.
"Hi Tae!" Jimin squealed as he spun him around, laughing loudly.
"You have no idea how relieved I am to see that you're okay," he said after he'd put Jimin down. He looked at Jungkook, who had a fond smile directed at Jimin. "And I'm finally glad to see this idiot can shut up about how much he loves you," he added with a laugh.
Jungkook rolled his eyes, playfully punching him. As he took a seat at the end by Jimin, he looked around at everyone. Though he knew that this peace wasn't going to last forever, as something bigger was headed their way, he wasn't going to let go of this moment. He listened intently to everything that he missed, even chimed in to help the others make fun of how sappy Jungkook was now that Jimin was awake.
It warmed Tae's heart to see the Omega so happy. For a long time, he had thought he would never see him truly smile. Yet every time Jungkook said or did something, that beaming smile would overtake his face.
And so, pushing the thought of whatever weapons the Government had coming, Tae focused on his friends, living in the moment.
