Up in the high mansion, Judge Carney and his wife were devastated by the video footage, one that showed the proof of life, followed by Kendall falling into seizure. The kidnappers warned that Kendall was dead, and their children will suffer the same fate should their demands not met.
Sitting across from the Carneys was Jill, she sat with her back firm and straight, putting on a brave face despite seeing the video. Like any mother, she refused to believe her child was dead.
Judge Carney knew very well how the event will play out, he has handled many kidnapping cases, unless the criminals were caught before hand, the outcome of getting his children back unharmed was extremely low.
As a father, he would do anything to get his children back, but as a judge, meeting those demands would destroy his reputation, and therefore his family. Even if he gets his children back safely, they will forever carry the name of a failing father.
The kidnappers have instructed them not to call the police, but the Judge called anyway, taking initiative to find them at the earliest timeline.
The FBI has already setup a team in his living room, and began investigating the kidnapper Samuel Duffy, a convict with a history of crime, demanding the release of his brother Robert Duffy, whom Judge Carney gave a double-life sentence for twenty-seven counts of rape, assault and murder.
A team was already sent to prison, to question the brother's whereabouts, at the same time checking all possible locations, the tension in the air was so high one could hardly breath.
Suddenly the floor was jumped by a blast of music, it was coming from Jill's phone, playing a ringtone of Kendall's song Wear En Out.
"Mom!" everyone was stunned by Kendall's voice coming out of the phone's speaker.
"Kendall! Oh My Baby, where are you??" Jill gasped, shaking in tears hearing her little girl's voice.
"I'm on their vehicle."
"Let me speak to them!" the Judge reached for the phone.
"They're not with me."
"What? Where are they?"
"I... kind of ran them over..."
All jaws dropped and eyes widened around the living room. Bateman leaned over the phone and spoke.
"Kendall Vertes. This is Special Agent in Charge Bateman from the FBI. Can you tell us where you are?"
"Oh, Hi Special Agent Bateman!" Kendall responded in her usual fan-greeting tone. "I'm at..."
She drove pass a sign emerging from the woods, reading it out loud.
"I see a Highwood Cemetery. Damn it! They couldn't bury me here? It's only a drive away!" Kendall cursed the men she ran over.
"Woods Run." Bateman acknowledged his men. "Kendall Vertes, remain where you are. We'll send people to take you to safety."
"No! From where they kept us I heard trains, I think it's somewhere north along the industrial area of 65." said Kendall checking Google Map. "I'm heading over there now."
"Negative. These are dangerous criminals. You have no idea what you're up against!"
"There were three men from a pickup truck and a van who took me and Sebastian, two in the car that took Ellie. I'm guessing at least five men. They were all armed but I ran down two of them at the cemetery, I got their guns and wallets and you might want to write down their IDs."
The room full of agents was astonished by what they just heard, checking the given information, compared notes and verified more suspects.
"Mom! I need to reach Paige. I'm using their phone so I don't have her number."
"Oh my God you took their phone too?" Jill gasped, so did everyone else.
"Please have her call this number. She can help me find Sebastian and Ellie."
"Kendall Vertes! Do not! I repeat! Do not take any action! Remain where you are and we'll take you to safety!" the Agent in Charge instructed again.
"But they are my friends! And I'm almost there!"
"You're not trained for situations like this! We don't want you in any danger!"
"Oh trust me, if you survived Abby, you can live through all kinds of danger." Jill told the man.
"Special Agent Bateman, please trace this phone and you'll know where I am. Sorry but I have to go!"
Hanging up, the call left the floor in silence, everyone stunned by the unexpected turn of event, bewildering how a young girl single handedly disarmed two kidnappers, and delivered vital information to the case.
"Who IS this girl??" one agent asked.
"She's my baby." Jill brushed her hair proudly, her eyes never so confident. "She's my little Kendall!"
