The group arrived at Hogwarts a couple of hours later. Regulus gasped when the Castle came into view. It was beautiful. They got off the train and onto a carriage. Only Regulus and Sirius could see the large thestral pulling the carriage steadily closer to Hogwarts. Although Remus could not see the thestrals, he knew they were there and the thought sent a shiver down his spine.
Once they'd reached the grand oak doors that would open into the castle, the group all got off the carriage and headed into the Great Hall via the Entrance Hall. Once they'd entered the extraordinary room, James, Sirius, Peter, Remus and Lily sat down at the Gryffindor table while Regulus joined his fellow first years getting ready to be sorted.
Less than 5 minutes later, Dumbledore began his long, "inspiring" speech and then the Sorting Hat sang its song, ready for the sorting to began. "Bartimus Crouch." The voice of Minerva Mcgonagol, Head of House of Gryffindor and Transfiguration teacher. A fairly short boy with light brown hair but a stone cold face walked swiftly towards the front of the hall and sat very still on the stool. "Slytherin!" The sorting hat yelled. Bartimus nodded, happy with his house and there was a cheer from the Slyhterin table when he walked over and sat down. "Evan Rosier." Said Mcgonagol and a tall boy with pale skin and very short, very straight dark hair moved effortlessly through the crowd and onto the stool. The hat had barely touched the top of Evan's head before it shouted "Slytherin!" Regulus rolled his eyes. He'd met Evan before at a function his family had thrown. Evan's parents were strong and proud deatheaters. Regulus was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard his name being called. As a child Regulus was taught to act aloof and to just immediately assume that you're better than everyone there so that's what he did. He flicked the switch and turned the act back on. Regulus walked up to the front proudly, ignoring the whispers that followed him. He was practically famous just because of some stupid last name. When he reached the front he sat down on the Sorting Hat was placed on his head. Strangely, the hat started talking to him so no one else could hear "Ah, another Black." It said "Hmm, you boy, are very intelligent. Very intelligent indeed. You'd make the perfect Ravenclaw." It paused and then continued, "Ah, but I see your situation. The trap you are caught in. The danger you'd be in if you were not sorted into the house of the Serpent. I will help you this one time. Although you don't belong there...SLYTHERIN!" The sorting hat yelled the house over the chatter in the Great Hall. Regulus stood and walked to his house table, cheers following him.
The rest of the first years were sorted and the feast began. During the feast Regulus glanced a few times at the Gryffindor table only to discover that James was already looking at him. One time they made eye contact and James just blushed and looked down at his plate of food.
After the feast the Slytherin prefect took Regulus to his common room. He went straight away to find his dorm and get away from the noise. Once he found his room, he opened the door and was surprised to see Evan Rosier sat reading on a bed in the far corner. He lowered his book and his eyes widened when he saw Regulus. "Oh my god! Regulus! Thank god it's you I'm sharing a dorm with!" He smiled wildly.
"Hey Evan. You do know we have to share with two other people, don't you?" Regulus said, trying not to let his jaw drop in surprise about how Evan was acting. "Yeah, yeah. I just hope they're not some stuck up rule followers, eh?" Evan said grinning mischievously. "Really Evan?" Regulus replied, trying to look as serious as possible. "Oh c'mon Regulus! Drop the act, our parents aren't around!"
Regulus sighed and gave in, "Okay fine. And you can call me Reggie." Evan was about to reply when there was a loud bang, a puff of smoke and a few sparks as Bartimus Crouch burst through the door laughing. "Hiya!" He said "I just pulled the funniest prank on that second year Snape guy." Regulus chuckled thinking about how Sirius would like this guy. "You must be Bartimus" He said still half chuckling. "It's Barty but yeah." He replied. "And you're Evan and you're Regulus."
"You can call me Reggie."
"Okay Reggie it is."Roughly half an hour later there final dorm mate arrived. His name was Caius Avery. He wasn't boring but he wasn't the most thrilling person in the world. Regulus reckoned he'd grow up to be an average member of society.
Meanwhile in the Gryffindor common room the four boys known as the Marauders stayed up talking. "I can't believe you two finally got together!" Peter said merrily, grinning at Remus and Sirius, who had both tried to fit into the same armchair but just ended up resting in a jumbled mess. James chuckled, "Yeah, you two are like literal soulmates!"
"Speaking of soulmates," Sirius looked at James smirking then continued, "what the hell is going on between you and my teeny weeny iccle baby brother?"
"Sirius! He's less than a year younger than us you know!?" James said.
"So you gonna ask him out?" Sirius questioned.
"He's straight though..." James sighed.
"DING DONG YOU'RE WRONG!" Sirius yelled, causing Remus amd Peter to burst into laughter. "So...he's not straight?" James asked, a glint of hope in his eye.
"Nope. He's like suuuuper gay. He realised when watching this muggle movie called "Grease". He fancied the main male actor, John Travolta. He came out to me a few weeks later." Said Sirius.
"Woah. That's a lot of new and good information." James whispered to himself but Sirius heard. "Just do it man, shoot your shot. It's just your best friends brother."A/N - Heyyyy Victorious reference there if you got it! Hope you enjoyed this chapter! I loved writing it! Xx
