The ball room was filled with unmated wolves and their families mingling, trying to make as many connections as they could. There was multiple mating ceremonies throughout the year to section off wolves who have early, mid-year and late birthdays. A good chunk of people didn't find their mates at the ceremony but it was to show all of those who were unmated and waiting for their mate a chance to meet them. Which meant if I didn't find my mate when I turned eighteen I would have to attend these balls three times a year, which I wasn't looking forwards to either of them.

I caught a glimpse of my parents in the back of the room smiling politely at everyone and trying to seem not too eager to be here. I waved through the chunks of families until I reached them. My mom pulled me in for a hug as we waited for Alpha Matthew to close the rehearsal.

The Alpha came up to the stage, his voice booming throughout the large room. "I'm so glad to see everyone here tonight and can't wait to see you all here again on Saturday. I wish everyone luck on finding their mate. Have a great night and get home safely."

The crowd buzzed as everyone hurried out of the room, while my parents held onto me as we waited for the crowd to die down before we headed out. "Mr. and Mrs. Knight, I hope you found our pack to your liking." A husky voice spoke next to us. I looked over to see Jaxon next to my father, we briefly made eye contact and he quickly looked away.

I stared at him puzzled as to why he looked away so quickly but I brushed it away thinking he probably wanted to make sure his pack was making a good impression on newcomers.

"Oh yes, we definitely did! Eliza loved the herb garden your mother takes care of. Her and our daughter Lucille help tend to the garden's on our estate and at the main house in town. Lucille was trained in healing medication and healing spells by her aunt."

"Oh?" Jaxon said raising an eyebrow to me. "What a unique skill, it certainly can come in use here."

"Our Lucille is very talented, top of her class too." My mother said pushing me in front of her showing me off proudly. "Are you in school?"

"I am, I'm currently homeschooled by a retired teacher here at the pack but I'll be transferring to the local school in the city to finish up my senior year so I can gain insight on the surrounding areas." He replied back.

That piqued my parents interest. My dad cleared his throat and asked, "Oh, what school?"

"Havenbrooke."

"Oh, that's the same school Lucille goes too!" My mother cooed. "Lucille, you can show him around or help him out if needed, it's the least you can do for your next Alpha." She looked at me with a bright smile.

I gave a small smile to Jaxon and nodded to my mother. "I'm also a senior there too." I said in a small voice.

"Well, I'll rely on you if needed." He said and gave a curt smile. "Excuse, me I have to speak with the Beta's family."

Jaxon nodded before walking away as my parents gossiped about how great of a guy the future alpha will be. I watched him as he walked away, looking at the way his muscles moved through his grey t-shirt and the way the veins in his arms showed as he flexed his hands. There was something about him and I just couldn't put my finger on it.

"Watch it, Loony!" Meredith shouted as she shoved me into a locker, her two side kicks smirking on either side of her. "I just got a manicure! Look what you've done!" She said giving my knees a good kick, as I fell to the floor in pain she kicked me again this time in the ribs. She growled in frustration. "These are new shoes too! Look what you've done to them! You owe me." She said through clenched teeth as she gripped my hair in her hands.
