I sprinted past the rushing waterfall and jumped over a fallen tree with Angie holding on for her life as we maneuvered around the forest.
I could feel her grip tighten when the ground beneath us crumbled and fell down to the cold water below.
"Someone's behind us, I can't sense him only smell him." Angie spoke loudly in my ear. "He's been following us since the clearing I think. Be careful."
I nodded mentally and pushed my body forward. I knew this trail like the back of my hand, it was my escape from the loneliness that followed me when I was here. But to someone who hasn't been on this trail at least a dozen times could easily get hurt and possibly fall to their death.
Up ahead was the connecting trail that lead to the main house. I sprinted my way over almost making it to the edge of the woods when I was pushed to the ground sending myself and Angie flying into trees. I slowly got up and shook my head to clear blurry sight and looked up to see the white wolf from the clearing standing way taller than myself and squinting at me.
My wolf growled in defense and quickly looked around to try finding Angie while keeping my eye on him.
Angie laid a few yards over, barely conscious, on her back. I blocked her view and stood my ground.
The wolf paced in front of me all while eyeing me like I was either a piece of meat or something he didn't know what to do with. He sprang forward knocking me over and pinning me on my back. His heavy weight pushing the air out of my lungs and not allowing air back in.
He snarled at me then sniffed my neck where my mark would be in human form. He growled and then his wolf whined. He licked my shoulder and nuzzled his face into my neck like he was a cat that was marking it's owner. While he was concentrated on my neck I sent a mind link out to anyone in the pack of my location and of Jaxon's location.
The wolf continued his bizarre behavior then gently bit the other side of my neck. My wolf wined in protest of another wolf biting me that wasn't my mate. I tried to move my head but he clamped onto my neck keeping my neck where he wanted it and then continued to groom me.
It went on for a few minutes until I heard the sound of paws hitting the ground heading towards us and the wolf stiffened above me and looked around. I caught sight of Jaxon's wolf along with the Alpha and a few pack warriors heading towards us.
The wolf licked my neck again and I heard Jaxon's wolf growl making the wolf above me make a cackling noise like it was laughing over Jaxon's jealousy and possessiveness. He pushed off me and stood between me and the group of displeased wolves. He paced back and forth between them then headed off back down the South Trail with a group of the pack warriors following close behind him.
As soon as he was out of sight I rushed over to Angie's side, ignoring Jaxon's worried nudge. I shifted back into human form and pulled Angie's half conscious body into my chest. "She's going to need a doctor. We have to find my aunt!"
Jaxon shifted next to me and picked up Angie out of my arms and we headed to the pack doctor. A few hours later Angie was laying down in a hospital bed with the pack doctor and Aunt Tay overseeing her. She was luckily okay but her back was bruised and she broke several ribs along with one of her wrists. Nathan was currently holding her hand in bed shirtless exposing the wrapping he had on his left shoulder all the way down his arm to his hand. He had taken a bite to the arm and his shoulder was pulled out of place.
I sat down on the other side of her bed and watched her sleep peacefully with a small smile on her face. She was always such a cheerful girl and knowing her she's probably having some dream about Nathan and her. I hated seeing her like this, if I had just been more careful she wouldn't be laying here dreaming away under powerful medication.
"Lucille," Nathan's voice broke me out of my thoughts. "It's not your fault. That wolf was huge and it bolted after you two as soon as you ran out of the clearing. I'm glad it was a few broken ribs, it could have been much worse. She'll heal, you know we don't get too damaged." He reached over and rubbed his thumb over my cheek wiping away a few tears I didn't realize had fallen.
"I wish she didn't have to be there. She's always been the weak one between us, so I worry." I said wiping my face.
"I know, but I'm glad she was being protected by you. You should get checked out yourself, you look horrible." Nathan said chuckling.
I rolled my eyes. "I heal quickly I'll be fine."
"Hey, don't blame me if she wakes up and yells at you for looking like shit." He teased smirking at me.
"Fine, fine! I'll go get checked out but I'm a hundred percent okay." I raised my hands showing I surrendered.
"Say that to your bleeding wrist." He nodded at my wrist which was bloody. I gave a concerned look down to my wrist and got up. I let him know I'd be back which he nodded in reply and headed to the lobby and asked one of the nurses if I could be seen.
Within the next half hour I was having the pack doctor wrapping my stitched wrist and setting the broken bones in it back into place. "We'll take an x-ray of your ribs since the rogue pinned you down. your breathing doesn't sound the greatest." He said, and looked up a nurse and instructed her what to do.
I got my chest x-rayed and waited for the doctor to tell me what he saw. Within ten minutes he came in with Aunt Tay both carrying a weird expression on their faces. "Not good?" I said worried.
"It's not the worst." My aunt said sitting down next to me.
"Your right lung is completely punctured by your ribs but yet you feel nothing and for someone only having one lung working your breathing sounds pretty decent. But the nurse noticed something weird when you undressed for the x-ray." The pack doctor explained.
I looked at the doctor and my aunt concerned. My aunt explained further after seeing my expression. "Your shoulder where the wolf was licking is shimmering, which may explain you not feeling any pain. When magic is preformed on the body for injuries the body shimmers."
I nodded slowly processing what I was hearing. "So what does that mean?"
Aunt Tay frowned slightly, "It seems like whoever did this to you is a wolf and a powerful witch especially since they didn't have to be in human form to relieve your pain."
"We need to get you into surgery before whatever kind of magic was preformed wears off and the pain kicks in." The pack doctor said. "It'll be a long operation so we'll need to start soon to be ahead of the magic that was placed on you.
"Okay, we'll let my parents and Jaxon know." I said looking at my aunt in approval.
"There's another thing Lucille." Aunt Tay said looking concerned.
"What?"
"It looks like your mind link to the pack has been erased."
