"Shit!" I cursed watching her run away. I called out to her a few times out loud and through the mind link but I knew she wasn't listening. She was right, I knew it, I just didn't want to look weak in front of the pack. I had to be a good Alpha and befriending the most influential pack members was important.

I ran into the house looking for my mom. I found her in the pantry trying to reach flour on the top shelf. I came behind her and grabbed it down. "Oh Jaxon, you scared me! Make some noise when you come up behind someone... Are you okay? You don't look so well."

"Lucille, she ran away..." Was all I managed to choke out.

"What do you mean ran away? Is she out in this storm?" When she saw the look on my face she knew her answer. "Let me mind link your father, he'll find her. I'll call her parents and see if they hear anything from her." She hurried out of the pantry and made her way to my dad's office down one of the main hallways.

"What happened?" My dad said as soon as the door opened. "Why did she leave?"

"I don't know." Was all I could manage out.

"Jaxon! I know when you're lying. You're going to be the future Alpha and need to be more responsible. Now tell me what happened."

"She went into the entertainment room earlier and we all were kind of jerks making fun of her family, and she got upset and exploded on me when we were on the porch then she took off."

"Looks like whatever she said got to you. I can't believe you let this even happened. I thought you were going to be ready and within a few years everything will be handed down to you but if you can't even handle taking care of a few bullies what are you going to do when a rogue pack attacks?"

"Matthew, don't be so hard on him." My mom chimed in putting her hand on his chest.

"No Felicity, he needs to hear this. Now some girl is out there in this storm where she could be hurt or missing. She's already braved it once and dealt with rogues but now she's alone and it's night time. She's upset and alone so no I won't be soft on him. One of his pack members is missing because of him." Dad stormed out of his office and I heard the front door slam then followed by a loud howl.

"He's right mom. I'm not ready. I doubt I'll ever be." I sat down on the edge of his desk. "I let her go and didn't even try to go after her."

"You like her, don't you?"

"I don't know. I just get this weird feeling around her. I can't explain it. I did something I shouldn't have done with her today."

"Oh? Well to me it sounds like you might care for her. An Alpha should be caring but also hard when he needs to be. I think you're ready for this job but you're still young, you have a lot to learn still. I'm going to call her parents, don't stress yourself out. Your dad will find her and you can make it right." She put her hand on my shoulder and gave me a small smile. I watched her walk away and took in a deep breath.

Get ahold of yourself Jaxon, you need to be strong. You're the next Alpha. It's time you start acting like it.

I got up and made my way back into the entertainment room where my friends were laughing and messing around. I slammed the door behind me making them jump and look over at me.

"What's going on?" Sam, my Beta, asked.

"What's wrong is how much piece's of shit you all are and I'm no better. Tonight one of your pack members ran off in this freak weather because of you when all she was trying to do was be nice." I yelled.

"You mean, big carnivore teeth girl?" Max, my lead warrior, said.

"If you want to be knocked flat on your ass then I suggest you lose any horrible nicknames you have for her. Her name is Lucille and she's now missing because of all of us. What do you got to say?"

No one said anything, they just looked at me with fear and nervousness in their eyes.

"She's out there in the storm?" A random girl pipped up.

"Yes, she's out there in her wolf form trying to brave the elements because our sorry asses couldn't play nice." I said irritated.

"What does her going missing have to do with us?" One of the guys said. I instantly wrapped my hands around his throat and picked him up off the ground. No one dared say a thing while he gasped for air.

"What that has to do with us is that we were part of the cause. We are what pushed it. And WE are going to fix it unless we want to be kicked out of the pack or worse killed." I threw him to the ground where his mate rushed over and check on him. "I will be Alpha and I will not stand for this anymore. So watch yourselves or you'll have no place in my pack and that is final."

I felt them cower over the Alpha energy that was radiating off me and I slammed the door on my way out. They were in for one hell of a training session the next time they saw me. If that talk didn't make them act right this training session will.

"Mom, did they find her yet?" I asked, making me way out the foyer and onto the porch.

"Not yet. I called her parents, they haven't heard anything from her yet. I'll let you know once I hear anything from your father."

I waited for the next two hours patrolling the perimeter of the tree line in my wolf form but nothing came. Another hour went by and I could hear my mother shouting my name. I ran over to the porch where I saw her waiting there for me. "They found her. She fought off four rogues at the edge of our territory but there was mud slide and she was trapped underneath. Your dad managed to pull her out. She's okay, it looks like she was injected with something. They're bringing her to the pack doctor now. Your dad wants you here. I let him know you took care of things here. He'll let you know when you can see her."

I stomped my paw in agreement and headed inside in my wolf form since I didn't have any spare clothes to put on. My mother laughed knowing what I was doing and made her way upstairs to my room where she let me in and laughed some more as I tried to squeeze in through the door way. I shifted once the door was closed and changed. I tried to make the room more comfy for her if they brought her back and headed out to wait at the porch.
