Push. Shove. Crunch. Crack. The shell surrounding me explodes outwards. I blink as the bright light hits me. My large eyes taking in too much of it.
Hey! I have a tummy! And hey, it's grumbling. My older brother, John, shoves me over as mom appears. Apparently he's hungry too. She feeds him then moves on to me. Clara, my younger sister, doesn't eat yet so mom just leaves when I'm done.
Man, this existing thing is hard. Maybe I'll go to sleep now. Good day.
Hello world! Finally, it's dark. And quiet. Too quiet. Just kidding. I should be an actor. John looks at me like I'm crazy. Well okay maybe there is only one actor like me who ever made it big, but maybe there can be two. Right?
Wait. What was that?
A scuttling noise. I look over the edge. John is looking over his too. Clara just sits there. She can't hear yet either. Oh! The noise is back. Hey, there it is! It just ran out from under that leaf. The Noise looks really yummy. I snap my beak at it but apparently it hears this and it scampers away. Too bad, it was a really fat Noise too. Maybe mom can track it down later. She seems really good at that sort of stuff. I mean it's her job to be good at tracking Noises.
I'm bored. Sitting around being fluffy and watching Noises is boring. Maybe I'll just pick at this mean twig. Twig, why do you insist in poking my bum all the time? Tee hee, I said bum. John rolls his head at me. He has no sense of humour.
Where's mom? She should be back by now. Mom! MOM! Oh, there she is. Right above me. What's she looking at? Maybe it's that glowing thing that just appeared through the trees. Hey! That's the bright light that hurts my poor sensitive eyes. If I close them it doesn't hurt. All right. Good by world. Cool. I can make things disappear by closing my eyes.
Grrrrrr. Stupid tummy. I open my mouth and, plop, in comes the food. Nice and warm and mushy. Just the way I like it. Mom is such a good cook. I wonder if it's the Noise John and I saw earlier? Probably not.
Yawn. I'm tired. It's really late. I think I'll get some shut eye. Goodnight John and Clara and Mom.
Come on! No matter how much I squiggle around I just can't sleep! John isn't helping either. He takes up so much room.
Hey, I wonder what those things are? The ones on the ground by the Noises. The ones that are multicoloured and naked. They look so funny. I'll call them “Stupids” 'cause they are not wearing anything and that's just plain stupid. Also they are so colourful. Mom could hunt them down in an instant. Hey that one is looking at me! And now that other one is looking at me! Why are they staring? Don't they know its rude to stare. What? Is there something on my face? Man, now I'll never sleep. It's kind of creepy being watched all the time.
Oh well. Good bye. I think I'll just talk to Clara. She's a really good listener.
