RE: Recall Exemption Request

Good afternoon, Mr. Rivers.

I have a bit of an unusual one for you:

As I'm sure you are aware, Brontë Inc. is finally in possession of the last of the Governess prototypes. All but one were returned to us within 48 hours of issuing the recall, but JN-1 0012-CB — the android given to shareholder Mr. Edward Rochester — was withheld.

Well, I'm having a difficult time with the truth even as I type this email to you, but the reason for the delayed return is that Mr. Rochester fled with JN-1. Yes, fled. The security team found them and escorted them back this morning, and although Mr. Rochester ultimately allowed JN-1 to be taken away, he did so with an odd demand:

He wants an exemption from the product recall. He wishes for JN-1 to remain with him in his home (the ancestral estate of Thornfield Hall). And as if that weren't irregular enough, when asked why, he responded, "Love."

I really am beside myself, Mr. Rivers. But also intrigued. The Governess was designed to be so human that the consumer wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I think a full inquest is needed here.

Surveillance footage is already being gathered from Thornfield Hall. I would appreciate being kept in the loop on this.

Thank you for your time,
Alice Fairfax
Brontë Inc. In-house Attorney
