You exit Sugarplum's Sweet Shop together, you pushing the buggy while Draco carries the purchases before you take them off him and place them carefully into the chassis of the pushchair.
It's early December and the shops of the Wizarding quarter of London are alight with festive decorations and treats.
"Where next?" he asks.
"You tell me, you're the one who wanted to go shopping with us," you reply with a grin.
"Well let's just wander then and see what we can find."
You nod in response as you walk up the alley and admire the displays.
You stop, your mouth dropping open in delight as you reach the huge window of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes where cracker after cracker is exploding throwing sparks, fantastic hats and novelty gifts up into the air in a kaleidoscope of colours. "Shall we go in?" you ask turning to look at your companion.
"Oh... No," he replies suddenly looking rather furtive.
"You could get something for your father?" you joke and he gives a small sniff of amusement in response. "What's the matter?" you enquire noticing how he shifts awkwardly about.
He sighs, "Walk on and I'll tell you, but please let's walk on."
"Okay," you reply in confusion pushing the buggy up the alley as he marches ahead before he slows down again, "What is it?"
"I forget that you weren't at Hogwarts during everything. You know who set up that shop?"
"Yes, Fred and George Weasley."
"Yes, they left the year before you would have started. Let's just say we didn't get on together, they were Gryffindors apart from anything else, but I didn't like their younger brother or their friends."
"You mean Ron?"
"How do you know him?" he snaps.
"The same way I know about Harry and Hermione - I read about them in all the books and papers."
"Oh yes, them too," he replies with a sigh. "Anyway, I don't want to go in that shop, or get caught outside it, I wouldn't be welcome, one of the brothers died, you know that?"
"Fred, yes, I've read about it."
"Yes...well, I was on the side of the people that killed him, I expect George still thinks of me as his enemy."
"Are you?"
He looks up at you quickly, "No!"
You look down at the floor, the day suddenly feeling horribly marred.
"I'm sorry, let's forget it, I wanted to come and spend time with...Scorpius, let's walk on," he sighs,
You move off together in silence but then Scorpius gives a babble and points excitedly towards the owls that sit on their festively decorated perches in the window of Eeylops Emporium.
"I'll take him in to see them," Draco says with a soft smile, "you do some window shopping, we'll catch you up," he adds taking the buggy from you.
You watch them go in, and then turn and make your way up the street admiring the various signs and products.
You come to a stop outside Twilfitt and Tattings and give a delighted gasp, another heavenly dress is in the window, even more, beautiful than the one Pansy wore at Halloween. Shades of festive red silk, swirling down from a fitted bodice studded with rubies.
"You like it?" a voice asks and you catch sight of Draco's reflection in the window beside you.
"It's very beautiful, but everything in that shop is a bit beyond what you pay me," you joke.
