Chapter Five

~Two Months Later~

William looked up at Florencia as she strut into the common room. He quickly stood up as she walked over to him.

"Hi," Florencia said.

"Hi," William said.

"I just came to remind you to meet us at the library," Florencia said.

"I'll see you at library," William said.

"Yeah," Florencia said.

"All right," William said.

"You weren't in class the last two days. Were you ill?" Florencia asked William.

"No," William answered.

"Oh. All right. I better go to class. Catherine's waiting," Florencia said.

"Wait. I had to attend a state dinner with my grandmother," William told Florencia.

"Oh, right," Florencia said.

Florencia walked away.

During the middle of the day, Catherine, Florencia, Genevieve, Margaret and Kelly had brought out all the junk food, and drinks, and were gathered around the couch having a good time.

"Well, they make a handsome couple, don't they?" Kelly asked as she, Margaret, and Genevieve gossip about William talking to Emily.

Florencia and Catherine tuned them out.

"Princess Emily," Genevieve said.

"We can all say we knew her when," Kelly said.

"Blast. She's not his type," Margaret said.

"Why, because she's not royalty or because she's not you?" Genevieve asked Margaret.

"She's a lovely girl, but it's only temporary. I just don't see William bringing her home to meet the queen. Well, certainly not in those jeans, anyway," Margaret explained.

"No, Margaret's right," Kelly said.

"Come on," Genevieve said.

"A prince does not get serious about a commoner," Margaret said.

"You never know," Genevieve said.

"Would you take me home to meet the queen?" Kelly asked Genevieve.

"No...If my grandmother were the queen, I would definitely take Florencia or Catherine home to meet her. You know, in fact, I think I'd bring her here to meet them," Genevieve answered as she looked over to the two girls who were now paying attention to the ongoing discussion.

"Aw. Thank you," Catherine said.

Kelly blows a raspberry. "Oh, stop it," Kelly said.

"Who would you take, Florencia?" Margaret asked Florencia.

"Without a doubt, I would have to take Catherine to meet the queen. I'm already planning to take her to meet my family when we get a break so," Florencia answered without giving it a thought.

Catherine smiled.

"And I'm taking her to meet my family too," Catherine said, adding that so the girls don't ask her the same question.

"You two have been attached to the hip since you met," Kelly said.

"They're best friends now, Kelly," Genevieve said.

The next day, Florencia is in the art room when William walks in. William sneaks up behind her as she is painting.

"The colors are vibrant and express emotions typically associated with the life of sunflowers. The bright yellows of the full bloom to the dark, arid browns of wilting and death. Every stage in the life of a sunflower is expressed here in this one composition. Notice the short strokes of yellow hues that blend the edges of each new shape, and see how the shadows are created without pinpointing where the light is coming from," William said as he focused on her painting.

Florencia jumped in fright.

"Wills!" Florencia exclaimed.

"Hi," William said, smiling.

Florencia sighed.

"What are you doing here? How did you know I was here?" Florencia asked him as she put down the paint brush.

"Catherine and I came here because we're done with classes. We should celebrate," William answered.

Florencia shook her head.

"We still have three more exams to study for," Florencia reminded him.

"Right. We'll put a pin in the celebrations," William said.

"By the way, you've developed quite a reputation," Florencia told William.

"Really?" William asked, shocked.

"Mm-hmm. According to the Daily Mail, you're a bit dull and aloof," Florencia answered.

"Am I?" William asked as he clears his throat.

"Prince William has not yet joined any of the social clubs at St. Andrews and is rarely seen around town at the pubs," Florencia replied.

"Well, that's not so bad," William said.

"The title of the article was William the Dull," Florencia told him.

"I'm not a big fan of the tabloids," William said.

"Of course," Florencia said.

"One more week. Then we get to go home," William said.

"Don't you like it here?" Florencia asked him.

"St. Andrews?" William replied.

"Mm-hmm," Florencia said.

"It's beautiful. I just thought I'd enjoy being isolated. But I miss the city and being close to my family and friends," William said.

"Well, why don't you transfer?" Florencia asked him.

"If I don't come back, people will think I've failed," William explained.

"It doesn't matter what they think. It's your life," Florencia said.

William sighed. Florencia got up and put away her paint supplies and put her canvas on a drying rack.

"I'm starving. Let's go," Florencia said.
