.Cinnamon's Wake.

"So where'd you say dad was?" Mom asks grandma.

"Away on business" Grandma answers.

"Location's top secret?" Mom jokes.

"Oh, Germany" Grandma says not realising mom wanted to know where exactly. 

"Germany. Is Dad's firm insuring Nazi's now?" Mom asks. 

"Your father doesn't know any Nazi's" Grandma says not getting the joke. 

"I know mom I was just" Mom shakes her head. 

"What?" Grandma asks. 

"Joking" Rory answers. "She was joking" 

"Oh hard to tell"

"Yeah well" Mom shrugs. 

"Oh I'm afraid I have some bad news. Claudia died" Grandma tells mom. 

"Who?" She asks. 

"Claudia, your cousin Claudia. Claudia!" Grandma keeps repeating as mom looks clueless. 

"I'm hearing the name mom, I have no idea who that is" Mom says. 

"Claudia is your cousin for all intents and purposes"

"Oh now we're getting to it" Mom smirks. 

"She was your father's grandmothers sister's girl, so to you that would make her" Grandma tries to figure out. 

"Nothing?" Mom guesses. 

"Regardless the funeral is on Thursday. I thought we'd all go together"

"Oh woah two problems one impossible to get away from the inn on thursday. Two I've never met this woman" Mom explains. 

"You most certainly have" Grandma insists. 

"When?"

"Several times" 

"I'll take one" Mom says. 

"We went to her house to see the first moon landing" Grandma recalls "She'd just gotten a new philco" 

"I have no memory of this whatsoever"  

"Rory, Hadie correct me if I'm wrong, Men have walked on the moon regardless of whether your mother remembers it or not"

"That's the rumour" Rory says.

"I know that men have walked on the moon, I just don't know Claudia" Mom says. 

"So you're not going?" 

"Not this time" Mom says. 

"I don't think Claudia planning to die a second time" I joke grandma and Rory stifle a laugh. 

"Mom I couldn't go if I wanted to" Mom says ignoring my comment. 

"Fine" Grandma says. "Oh wait, Rudolph Gottfried" Grandma says. 

"Another cousin?" Mom guesses. 

"No, a Nazi we knew. I'd forgotten. We stayed with him one time in Munich. Nice old man interesting stories" Grandma smiles. 

"Mom, you socialized with a known Nazi? That's despicable that's heinous!" Mom exclaims. 

"No dear, that was a joke" Grandma says making Rory and I laugh.

Rory and I coincidently come into the kitchen at the same time where Mom is sitting with her feet up watching tv.
