"L" Mom says. 

"Lyme disease" I say. "M" 

"Malaria" Rory says.  "N"

"Narcolepsy" Mom says. "O" 

"Do we have to go through this every time we decide who has to clean out the refrigerator?" Rory asks interrupting my turn. 

"Do you wanna go back to thumb wrestling?" Mom suggests, Rory sighs remaining silent. 

"Osteoarthritis" I say my answer. "P"

"Oh puppies!" Mom yells. 

"That's not a disease" I say.

"Also not her turn" Rory scoffs.

"Oh shit look" I say looking at the adoption fair going on. 

"Oh hi, hi oh hi!" Mom says to each of the dogs. "Rory, Hadie look at the baby" Mom says finding a puppy she likes. 

"Mom" Rory says sternly. 

"Aw, Buttercup was found cold and wet, hovering under a hydrangea bush along highway 26! It's a sad highway" I read out the information card. 

"Compared to all the happy highways he could have been abandoned on?" Rory asks.

"Her lineage includes cocker spaniel, golden retriever, bouvier des flandres" Mom reads out. 

"Gesundheit" Rory and I say in unison. 

"Thankyou, and Rottweiler" Mom finishes the list.

"Buttercup is a special dog. She is extremely skiddish and tends to react badly towards blonde haired females, brunette males and children of either sex, other animals, red clothing, cabbage or anyone in uniform" Rory reads. 

"Hey we just found the doggy version of you" Mom says to Luke. 

"Can I help you?" One of the adoption managers asks Luke. 

"Do not let these three anywhere near a dog, they can barley feed themselves" Luke says to the man. 

"Shut up you, we would be excellent pet owners, thank you" Mom lies. 

"You cannot be serious" I groan. 

"What, we could get him a pretty bowl" Mom starts to fantasize. 

"It's a her" Rory says. 

"And a new name" Mom says.

"Mom" 

"This butter cup thing really has to go" Mom admits. 

"I'm with you there" I say, Rory stares daggers at me, "What it's too cutesy" 

"Do I need to remind you both of Skippy?" Rory asks.

"Skippy?" Luke asks with a slight smirk knowing it's going to be a good story. 

"I can't believe you would bring up Skippy" Mom says shocked. 

"Skippy was our hamster" Rory answers Luke. 

"He doesn't care" Mom insists not wanting to discuss the incident. 

"What happened to Skippy?" Luke asks intrigued. 

"Nothing" Mom answers way too quickly. 

"Every time Mom would put her hand into his cage he'd bite her" I explain. 

"And laugh" Mom adds. 

"Hamsters can't laugh" Luke says calmly. 

"Oh this one laughed trust me" Mom says dead serious.
